Google announces new validations for ad account names

Beginning in June 2023, new Google Ads accounts will no longer be able to include a URL in their account names.

What’s changed. Specifically, when creating a new Google Ads account through the Google Ads API or updating an existing one, if a URL is found in the descriptive_name field, an ACTION_NOT_PERMITTED error will be generated, causing the operation to fail. This change, however, will not impact the descriptive_name field of existing accounts.

Dig deeper. You can read more about the change on the Google Ads Developer Blog.

Why we care. Adhering to new naming conventions is crucial to maintaining a seamless ad experience. By adhering to the new rules, advertisers can avoid encountering errors when creating or updating their accounts, thus ensuring a smooth account setup process, preventing potential delays in launching campaigns, and fostering a more organized and consistent naming convention across the platform.

What’s in a Name – Positive Black Images

Home Business Magazine Online

Meet Dexter R. Merritt Sr., the founder and CEO of Positive Black Images, a fine art publishing and distribution company located in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Dexter R. Merritt Sr.
Dexter R. Merritt Sr.

After graduating from college in 1985, Mr. Merritt left Mississippi and settled in Dallas, Texas for eight years. As is the case with many graduates, he rented an apartment the first couple of years and subsequently purchased his first home a few years later. Upon doing so, he became intent on finding art that reminded him of the life he had left behind. He wanted pieces that reflected the nostalgia of the Mississippi Delta, and he wanted a collection that was representative of the African American experience. Additionally, he wanted to display art that could effectuate positive change.

Mr. Merritt visited several galleries in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. While he found several pieces that he liked, he also noticed a certain scarcity in what he was looking for and was subsequently able to find. As Mr. Merritt traveled from one gallery to another, he had the good fortune of meeting several talented artists. As he developed relationships with various artists, it became apparent that the perceived scarcity of the art he was seeking was not the end; it was the beginning. Mr. Merritt decided to be a part of the solution and work with local artists to help create the products he desired. As a consequence, in 1989 he founded Positive Black Images.

For 15 years, while working at large information technology companies during the day, he operated his parttime mail order business in the evenings and on the weekends. As the Positive Black Images business grew through the 1990’s and early 2000s, Mr. Merritt continued to assume positions of increased responsibility in corporate America. In 2004, it became apparent that he could no longer traverse both worlds and maintain a healthy work life balance. As a consequence, he placed a strategic pause on the part-time business and committed himself to a full-time career in engineering, program management, and portfolio management until his retirement in 2020. Mr. Merritt stated, he was blessed and thankful to have celebrated 35 plus years of service in his profession.

Mr. Merritt believes that people in general are not limited to one calling. We all have multiple interests, and they can evolve over time. In that spirit, he transformed the prior mail order business to function as an eCommerce site. Their collection of fine art and gift accessories includes open and limited-edition prints, full color and black and white reproductions, a full line of greeting cards, and other accessories. Positive Black Images takes pride in offering its customers the finest in African American art. They are particularly proud to offer a collection that is representative of the African American experience. All of the art has a purpose, and it tells a story.

Success Comes In Cans – I Can, You Can, We Can

Photo Credit: Positive Black Images. Left to right: I Can by Alix Beaujour, You Can by Arthello Beck Jr., We Can by Arthello Beck Jr.

The 1st series they published was “Success Comes In Cans – I Can, You Can, We Can”. “I Can” by Alix Beaujour illustrates a young man as he studies by the light from a kerosene lamp with a ray of brightness illuminating one of his eyes. A black and white picture of Frederick Douglas can be seen in the background because during that time, there were no color photographs. “I Can” creatively communicates Mr. Merritt’s father’s determination and passion for education, dating back to his formative years. To truly appreciate his passion for education, you must first understand his philosophy of education. Dr. Merritt said, “Be it formal or informal, education is essential for one’s own survival and the survival of others. Openness and ambiguity encourage thinking; likewise, specificity limits thinking. Education comes in two forms. One form of education enables us to earn a living; the other enables us to live. It is paramount to realizing one’s full potential.” It was only fitting that “I Can” be the 1st painting in the “Success Comes In Cans” series.

“You Can” by Arthello Beck Jr. illustrates a schoolteacher as she inspires the younger generation to realize their full potential. This painting creatively communicates Mr. Merritt’s mother’s passion for educating others as a young teacher. To truly appreciate her passion and commitment to her students, you must first understand Mrs. Merritt’s commitment to her family and the communities she served. Mr. Merritt said that nurturing and educating others came naturally to his mother. It was only fitting that “You Can” be the 2nd painting in the “Success Comes In Cans” series.

“We Can” by Arthello Beck Jr. illustrates a family giving thanks before dinner. The Success Comes In Cans series illustrates that success in part can be achieved through educating yourself, taking the time to educate and mentor others, and family unity. It was only fitting that “We Can” be the 3rd painting in the “Success Comes In Cans” series.

Future-Proofing Real Estate: Embracing Sustainability, Operational Excellence, and Innovative Solutions

Home Business Magazine Online

Adapting to a Changing Real Estate Landscape

The days of passive ownership in real estate are fading as investors realize the importance of active ownership in today’s rapidly evolving market. Understanding the effects of market changes on various regions, asset classes, and tenant demands is critical to success. By adopting a customer-focused, company-driven approach, investors can identify how assets can adapt to societal and business trends, ultimately ensuring long-term income and value.

Three Pillars of a Future-Proof Real Estate Strategy

To keep up with the changing market dynamics, real estate entrepreneurs must concentrate on three factors: sustainability, operational excellence, and innovative solutions that offer flexible contracts and investment options. This trio of focus areas forms the foundation of a future-proof real estate strategy, which we call the SOI approach.

Sustainability and Operational Excellence of Assets

Sustainability and operational excellence are connected at the asset level. Real estate investors can manage assets in a way that enables operational efficiency, minimizing the use of scarce resources, waste, and carbon emissions. The method may necessitate extra services, in-depth management, or increased expenses to enhance energy efficiency.

By integrating sustainability and operational excellence, investors can secure the value of assets for occupants, supporting their business models and rent-paying abilities.

Solutions That Benefit Both Tenants and Owners

Offering flexible solutions for tenants and investors helps align asset operations and income with the success of the occupier’s business. Although many real estate investors and banking specialists have hesitated to include this aspect in contracts, embracing this approach can create a virtuous cycle.

By treating each asset as an individual business, owners can support tenants through changing market conditions and economic statuses. This partnership model optimizes both parties’ financial security, preventing bankruptcies, vacancies, and obsolescence.

Aligning Investments with Sustainable Trends

Identifying long-term trends that influence real estate demand worldwide is essential for successful portfolio construction. Four key trends to consider are:

  1. Technology & the knowledge economy
  2. Rising individualism
  3. Aging populations & demographic shifts
  4. Connecting people & places

Investing in assets that align with these trends ensures a market tailwind, making it easier to achieve success. Therefore, carefully assess market segments for the top overall value.

Finding the Right Execution Partner

Operational excellence includes partnering with experts who understand local supply and demand dynamics and can service assets effectively. In addition, the right partner should know how to convert long-term trends into specific market opportunities and align investment performance with occupiers’ company achievements.

Exploring Different Investment Structures

Various investment structures can help cater to governance preferences, investment opportunity duration, and market timing. For example, mixing direct investments, open-ended funds, closed-ended partnerships, listed funds, and real estate loans can optimize access to operational excellence and open up the entire real estate investment market.

A Disciplined, Flexible Approach for Long-Term Success

The SOI framework is designed to underpin every investment and asset management decision, ensuring sustainable outperformance of clients’ investment objectives. This flexible, agile approach fosters long-term partnerships with stakeholders, including investors, tenants, society, and the environment, leading to a future-proof real estate portfolio.

Twitter introduces mandatory verification for advertisers

Starting April 21, verified check marks will be necessary for brands running ads on Twitter. Unless they’re spending over $1,000 a month, that is.

A copy of the email was posted on Twitter by Matt Navarra.

Why we care. To avoid paying the $8 a month for verification, your business will either need to spend $1,000 a month in ads or have a gold checkmark (which also costs $1,000 a month and indicates that you’re a “verified business”). Either way, Mush really wants his $1,000 a month from you.

IMO, it’s a confusing mess for businesses and advertisers trying to navigate Twitter’s new verification requirements, potentially deterring smaller advertisers and reducing the platform’s overall appeal. As if that was even possible at this point.

Not totally unreasonable. There is no official information on Twitter’s ad account pages indicating that only verified accounts can advertise, but it is reasonable to require verification for advertisers if it helps reduce spam or discourage malicious actors from using the platform. For this to be genuinely effective, however, a more rigorous vetting process beyond requiring a credit card and phone number would be necessary, as the $8 monthly fee alone is not a significant deterrent for scammers.

Going forward, it appears that those wishing to post an ad or promote a tweet must pay either $8/month for Twitter Blue or $1,000 per month to be recognized as a verified organization. An exception may be made for accounts with a grey checkmark, designated for official government-related accounts such as agencies, embassies, parliaments, and the like.

Love horror films? Earn £5 for watching two freaky flicks

Love horror films? Earn £5 for watching two films.

A new study has revealed that Birmingham is home to the biggest horror lovers in the UK. People from this major city love horror more than any other region in the country. In fact, 26% of people named it their favourite genre.

The nationwide survey, conducted by Showcase Cinemas, has delved into the film fascinations of the UK. This is to celebrate a spooky set of releases coming up within the next few months.

To mark the run of freaky flicks, Insider members at showcase cinemas who watch any two (or more!) horror films between now and May 4th, will receive £5 in rewards to use during a future visit.

Horror fans will be in their element, with films such as Scream VI, Renfield and Evil Dead Rise available to watch this April.

On the other end of the scale to Birmingham, the study showed Portsmouth is home to the biggest ‘scaredy-cats’ in the UK. Just 6% of those surveyed chose horror as their favourite genre. This is less than any other area in the country!

Jon Dixon, UK Marketing Director for Showcase Cinemas said:

“Horror has always been a huge hit at the cinema, as people love for their emotions to be pushed to the limits. There are some amazing horror films coming out this year, which is why we wanted to give something back to cinemagoers who suffer a scare or two.

“We’ll be offering any Insider members who watch any two or more horror releases until early May an extra £5 in rewards, which means they can put that money towards their ticket for another horror, or maybe save it for something else if they’ve had enough scares for a while!”

To claim the reward, guests will need to be an Insider member and watch at least two of the participating horror films before May 4th. Anyone who isn’t currently a member can sign up for free via the Showcase website.

TOP TEN HORROR LOVING CITIES

  1. BIRMINGHAM (26%)
  2. CAMBRIDGE (25%)
  3. BRISTOL (24%)
  4. EDINBURGH (24%)
  5. COVENTRY (23%)
  6. LEEDS (23%)
  7. LIVERPOOL (22%)
  8. YORK (21%)
  9. NEWCASTLE (20%)

Rename a burger – and win £2,000!

Rename a burger, and win £2,000!

Flaming Grill are giving pub goers a challenge. The company has launched a competition on social media platform Instagram, in which it is asking people to put their wit to the test and rename a signature burger from its menu.

The best part? You could win the huge prize of £2,000 if your name is picked.

The pub chain is asking Brits to put their best puns forward to rename the Flaming Grill Signature Stinger burger. So, if you think you’re a bit punny, why not apply?

The Signature Stinger features a southern-fried chicken fillet and mouth-watering crispy chicken strips. This is then topped with cheese, a piri piri sauce kick and jalapenos for extra heat. The pun opportunities are endless.

If puns are your grill-ty pleasure, head over to the Flaming Grill Instagram account to enter. You will need to follow the page, share the pinned post and share their suggestion through a comment on the Signature Stinger burger post.

You can enter as many times are you like, with the company encouraging people to suggest the weirdest and wackiest names you can think of!

Mia Broadbent, Marketing Manager at Flaming Grill, said:

“We’re looking for a Flamin’ great new name for our Signature Stinger burger, and who better to choose the new name than the great British public?

“With a £2,000 prize up for grabs for the winning name, this is a fantastic opportunity for customers to stretch their creative muscles and potentially pick up a grand prize at the same time!”

The competition is open anyone to anyone who has an Instagram account and will be live until 23:59 on Monday 24th April. Jack Rear, Telegraph Lifestyle reporter, will then shortlist the ten most creative contenders, before opening it up to the public to decide the winner via an Instagram poll.

GET PAID TO LIVE ABROAD

Get paid to live abroad…

Population decline is a huge problem in various places around the world, where for one reason or another, the citizenship of a country has sharply fallen, which can have a negative effect on both economy and culture of a location.

This has led to many towns and cities across the world offering funding schemes to newcomers who are willing to relocate to their area to live and work. Intriguing to know, particularly if you’re looking to move to:

USA

get paid to live abroad

Various USA locations are offering payment to remote workers who would consider relocating.

Tulsa, Oklahoma, is offering remote workers a grant of up to $10,000 to move to and work in the city. You can find out more at Tulsa Remote, where new residents can find out about working spaces and access to networking events. You will be able to choose to receive your money in one lump sum or over the course of a few months, to support you during your setup.

Topeka, Kansas, has a Choose Topeka scheme to recruit new residents and young professionals who, if employed by a Topeka business, could receive a grant of $15,000. Furthermore, remote workers can receive $5,000. Applicants must be able to prove they have rented or bought a property in Topeka that will serve as their main residence.

Spain

get paid to live abroad

Some small Spanish towns in Spain have suffered a population decline as young residents have increasingly chosen to move to larger cities, causing Spain to offer incentives to new foreign citizens, encouraging them to live and work there.

Ponga is a small village with only about 500 residents in the mountain region of northern Spain. Ponga is offering young couples €3,000 to move there for five years, with an additional €3,000 per child you bring or have while there.

A Xesta is an even smaller population: only 100 residents, and also in northwest Spain. There are about 125 vacant properties for rent, and it’s a low rent too: you’d pay only €100!

Further east, with 130 residents, is Griegos, offering work and three months of free rent to newcomers, then rent of €225 per month and an extra €50 for each child aged between 4 – 18.

Greece

get paid to live abroad

Greece has suffered a steady decrease since 2010 with no signs of slowing, so to combat this decline, the island of Antikythera, northwest of Crete, has introduced a plan to pay families to relocate there, organised by the Greek Orthodox Church on the island.

New residents will receive a home, some land, and be paid €500 every month for the first three years they live there, to encourage long-term plans of their new residents. The island is quiet and rural, with the added benefits of the amazing Greek weather and sandy beaches, which could be just what you’re looking for!

Italy

get paid to live abroad

Italy is suffering the same rate of population decline as Greece; Candela is a small town in south-eastern Italy with around 2,700 people. It’s renowned for being safe, clean and boasts some truly remarkable classic Italian architecture.

Candela is offering single people €800, couples €1,300, and families €2,000 to move to the village. To be eligible, newcomers would need to rent a property in Candela with the plan to live full time, and also to secure a job that earns at least €7,500 per year.

Some towns in Sicily want to offer newcomers the opportunity to purchase a property for €1, in return for which, the resident will have to renovate the property and pay a security deposit of around €5,000, which will be paid back after you’ve completed renovations.

Chile

get paid to live abroad

Through Startup Chile, foreign businesses are encouraged to apply to one of three programmes – Build, Ignite, and Growth; all aimed at different levels of business.

Build is for new startups and is a four-month programme helping to launch a new business with $14,000 funding and a one-year residence visa.

Ignite offers $30,000 and Growth is aimed at more mature businesses, offering $80,000 funding. All programmes provide access to coworking space, mentoring and investors.
