UK’s cheapest supermarket revealed – and it may surprise you

Consumer experts Which? has revealed the UK’s cheapest supermarket for March (excluding Aldi and Lidl), and it may just surprise you. Coming in at a whopping £20 less than the most expensive supermarket, Waitrose, the cheapest supermarket is Sainsbury’s.

This supermarket undercut its rivals Asda, Tesco and Morrisons.

41 grocery items cost an average of £72.54 across the month at Aldi. This is compared to a total of £92.55 in Waitrose. The same items would cost £72.79. Comparing another 96 items, a total of 137 including the original 41, including branded products such as Andrex toilet paper and Cathedral City cheese, and not including Aldi and Lidl, found Asda was the cheapest, costing £343.91.

Sainsbury’s was the next cheapest, costing £9.25 more. Waitrose was £41.83 more expensive than Asda. With many people considering Sainsburys a more expensive option, these finding are a pleasant surprise. These findings demonstrate shoppers can make considerable savings on their groceries by shopping around.

However, Which? said many of the major supermarkets still have not done enough to support their customers during this time of high inflation and living costs.

Retailers should make sure affordable basic ranges are available in all supermarket branches, including smaller convenience stores.

Which? Retail editor Ele Clark said:

“We know people are suffering through the worst cost-of-living crisis in decades and the price of food and drink has skyrocketed no matter where you shop. However, our monthly supermarket analysis shows you could save £20 on a basket of everyday groceries at the cheapest supermarket compared to the priciest one.

“Supermarkets aren’t currently doing enough to help customers. Which? believes the big retailers have a responsibility to ensure everyone has easy access to basic, affordable food ranges at a store near them, and to provide transparent pricing so people can easily work out which products offer the best value.”

How AeroFlexx Is Helping Companies Meet Sustainability Goals

Home Business Magazine Online

Since its introduction to commercial markets in the early 20th century, plastic has revolutionized the ways we live. But ever since its environmental impact has been studied and measured, we’ve found that plastic remains one of the single most devastating modern design flaws.

Despite this, modern industries are still creating more single-use plastic than ever. And while some countries and US states are establishing their own targets to reduce plastic usage, many companies simply can’t envision a different solution that wouldn’t drastically disrupt their current business model.

Enter: AeroFlexx. This company aims to become the go-to solution for businesses looking to meet their sustainability goals by promising less plastic, less waste, less mess, and even long-term financial benefits for brands and consumers alike.

An alternative liquid packaging industry

AeroFlexx is a full-service liquid packaging company that provides a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic products. The company envisions a future where there is “no compromise” when it comes to an enhanced consumer experience, brand value, and — most importantly — the planet.

By combining the best attributes of both rigid and flexible packaging into a single solution, the AeroFlexx Pak can work in the same way a normal squeezy bottle or a resealable pouch does, but “uses up to 70 percent less plastic than traditional bottles, resulting in 73 percent less water consumption and 81 percent less waste that would otherwise end up in landfills,” according to its CEO, Andrew Meyer.

AeroFlexx’s packaging is versatile, lean, flexible, and fully customizable for edge-to-edge artwork, meaning companies don’t have to compromise on an eye-catching design. “At AeroFlexx, we take a holistic approach to drive real results and make a meaningful impact,” Meyer recently told the Los Angeles Tribune. “The AeroFlexx Pak enables manufacturers to succeed for the benefit of society and future generations.”

The science

AeroFlexx utilizes technology that allows customization based on specific needs, which it says lets users enjoy characteristics “never seen before in any liquid packaging.” Along with using 50 to 70 percent less plastic compared to rigid bottles, it doesn’t require molds and can incorporate up to 50 percent recycled content, eliminating 85 percent virgin plastic compared to a traditional rigid bottle. Once empty, it is also curbside-recyclable where all plastic bottles are accepted.

From production to usage and disposal, AeroFlexx’s innovative packaging has a lower carbon footprint. Its patented airframe technology ensures structural rigidity through the entire lifecycle, and its one-step “easy tear” seal provides greater accessibility to consumers. Likewise, the packaging’s “drop by drop” precision technology allows dose control with a squeeze of the hand, and the inclusion of a self-sealing valve means it won’t spill or leak — even if dropped.

“Consumers value sustainably sourced and manufactured products, so much so that these items enjoy 2.7 times faster growth,” Meyer added to the Tribune. On top of all this, the AeroFlexx Pak can be stored and transported flat, eliminating the need for excess packaging and numerous delivery vehicles. The company estimates that, by adopting this technology, companies can save approximately 196.2 million pounds of waste that would otherwise end up in landfills and reduce overall CO2 emissions by 51.4 million pounds.

The benefits

When it comes to the product itself, AeroFlexx says its innovative packaging still protects the inside just like any traditional plastic product, with flexible packaging designed to act like a traditional plastic bottle. Because of this increased brand value, they say, it enables top-line growth and bottom-line efficiency. The company also insists that, based on consumer experience, its packaging is even preferred over rigid bottles.

Above all else, though, the main benefit AeroFlexx seeks to offer companies is a faster means to a more sustainable business model, while at the same time “demonstrating environmental responsibility” to consumers. The company predicts that, based on projections of 2.5 billion product units across a five-year window, it could help save 980.8 million pounds of waste, 256.8 million pounds of CO2, and 65.3 million gallons of gas.

“In 2023, we are going to be a preeminent solution for this type of consumer-friendly packaging,” Meyer said in a press statement. “We have an unwavering obligation to society and future generations to do our part without compromise. Companies that are using AeroFlexx proprietary liquid packaging will achieve or perhaps accelerate their sustainability goals and like us, benefit the most as being the leaders in the industry.”

Can You Trust Outsourced Talent? How Virtual Assistants Can Help Solve the Labor Shortage

Home Business Magazine Online

By Raquel Gomes, Founder Stafi

The US unemployment rate remains low, and companies continue to struggle to hire and retain talented employees. This problem has persisted for so long that many business leaders now recognize the necessity of changing business practices and experimenting with new solutions.

One such innovative solution is outsourcing tasks to virtual assistants. This approach not only helps businesses solve their labor shortages, but also saves them valuable time, energy, and capital.

Kinds of Work Virtual Assistants Can Do

Many business leaders are astonished by the range and complexity of tasks that virtual assistants can handle. While virtual assistants can act as administrative assistants by answering the phones, responding to correspondence, doing data entry, and coordinating interviews, they can also do a lot more.

Each individual virtual assistant’s particular interests have an impact on the kinds of tasks they can take on. For example, some are adept with financial matters. These virtual assistants can assist with many activities related to accounting, such as tracking accounts payable and receivable, creating invoices, reaching out to customers whose bills are due, and conducting necessary purchasing for the company.

Other virtual assistants take an interest in marketing and social media. These workers are a natural fit for businesses that need help with their online presence or seek to reach their target market better.

Many are highly effective writers and editors. Not only can they proofread copy, but also they can generate it themselves. They often serve as a first line of preparation for meetings, compiling profiles of participants, summaries of agenda topics, and possible follow-up questions so that you walk into every encounter on the best possible footing.

Virtual assistants can even help busy business leaders balance their work and personal obligations. They can keep track of children’s activities and needs so that baked goods or equipment never go lacking or a bill never goes unpaid.

With the help of a virtual assistant, it really is possible to have it all, even if one can’t do it all. The important thing is to identify the particular roles you need to fill.

Finding a Trustworthy Virtual Assistant

Engaging a virtual assistant can be as easy or as difficult as you choose. On one hand, you can look for a virtual assistant on your own, which launches an entire hiring process. This option would require you to solicit resumes, review them, schedule interviews, conduct them, and possibly even do more than one round of meetings. You would also need to vet the candidates fully to ensure they are as highly qualified and educated as their materials suggest. In taking this approach, it would be advisable to develop relevant assignments for them to complete, as well as evaluate their work.

On the other hand, virtual assistant companies can do these tasks for you. If you do go with a virtual assistant company, then make sure they have a rigorous vetting process in place. These providers should ensure their virtual assistants are skilled in the necessary tasks, speak fluent English, and have college degrees, as well as screen their candidates extensively by conducting background checks and contacting their references. These companies should also provide dedicated teams that ensure your virtual assistant is completing the tasks you have assigned in a timely and appropriate manner.

Choosing to go with a virtual assistant company brings other advantages as well. Your provider will be responsible for their employment taxes, employee benefits packages, and training. If you find you no longer need your virtual assistant, you can let them go without guilt, confident in the knowledge that their company will simply assign them to a different client.

Virtual assistants can help a wide range of businesses address their labor needs. As a result, business leaders will be able to put staffing worries aside and return to what they do best: building their businesses.

New Bing attracts new Edge users – who then use Google Search

People who rushed to download the Microsoft Edge browser to try out the New Bing Chat experience – ironically – ended up using Google Search on Edge, according to new data from enterprise SEO platform BrightEdge.

Why we care. We’re watching closely for any data indicating whether the New Bing is starting to chip away at Google’s massive lead in search. What we see here is more evidence that Microsoft is driving more traffic to sites – in a twist, they’re doing it via Edge instead of Bing.

What the data shows. Google fairly consistently sent more than 3 million visits to websites since the start of 2023. Starting around Feb. 19, however, there is a noticeable uptick in Google traffic coming from the Edge browser. That number grew to roughly 3.7 million visits by the week of March 12.

Data comparison of website visits from Google in Edge vs. Bing in Edge.

Meanwhile, traffic from Bing in Edge also showed some growth since the start of the year (from just over 5 million to about 5.5 million as of the week of March 12), but the data seems to show that as more traffic started coming from Google in Edge, less came from Bing in Edge.

For its analysis, BrightEdge examined more than 600,000 million visits to websites across all major industries, comparing U.S. traffic from Google and Bing, by browser (Chrome vs. Edge).

Google gains an Edge. More than 1 million people signed up within the first 48 hours to try out the new Bing in February, but ended up stuck on a waitlist, in some cases for weeks.

So all those people who downloaded Edge stuck with it. But when it came to searching, rather than using Bing, many started using Google Search on Edge.

One big question we will be better able to answer months from now is whether limiting the integration of GPT-4 into Bing Chat solely on the Edge browser was a missed opportunity. We just don’t have that data yet.

“It is still early to predict how Google and Bing will evolve and if there is a significant market dominance shift,” said Lemuel Park, BrightEdge co-founder and CTO. “However, Bing will undoubtedly increase in popularity as more and more people experiment with its new capabilities.”

More data. The new Bing making (small) gains on Google Search has some additional data, including page visits on Bing rising 15.8% and Bing becoming a more significant referral source for some publishers.

9 Email Marketing Practices Your Customers Want You to Implement

Home Business Magazine Online

Email marketing is still one of the most effective strategies these years because of its adaptability. A trust may be established, valuable feedback obtained, new features announced, repeat business encouraged, and client defection avoided via its implementation.

It takes a lot of work to be noticed among the billions of emails sent every day and maintain the attention of your target audience. To help you get the most out of your email marketing efforts, we’ve compiled a list of 9 strategies for you to use.

Let’s begin with the basics and progress from there! These are 9 ways to improve the success of your email marketing initiatives.

While best practices for email marketing tend to be timeless, the most effective strategies for implementing them naturally vary with time. Based on current research, projected developments in digital marketing in 2023, and the most cutting-edge technologies at our disposal, the following list provides tried-and-true suggestions for improving your email marketing campaigns. These guidelines apply to both business-to-consumer and business-to-business email campaigns.

Divide your subscriber database into distinct groups

Email marketing may be used for a wide variety of initiatives, including but not limited to welcoming new customers, guiding them through the sales funnel, announcing new features, and promoting discounts and sales. Nevertheless, these methods are useless unless your list is segmented.

Some of the most common methods of segmentation are as follows:

  • Demographics: Filter contacts in your CRM by geographic region to send emails to the most relevant people.
  • Engagement: If a significant percentage of your email list didn’t read your initial message, you may want to try engaging them again by sending them something slightly different.
  • Customer journey: Provide different deals for new and returning clients.
  • Form: Where they filled out a form on your website to submit their information.

To do this using an automated email platform, you will need to put up rules and criteria.

Make your messages more unique

Janrain and Blue Research found that 96 percent of customers had experienced receiving irrelevant advertisements and content.

  • Unpersonalized offers demonstrate a lack of research into the clientele’s preferences.
  • The customer’s most basic details were incorrect.
  • Sending mixed signals across mediums of communication.

Another study found that when clients get emails with spelling or grammar issues, 68% of them immediately delete them, and 54% of them unsubscribe altogether.

On the other hand, customization has the potential to provide the following advantages:

  • Open rates may increase by as much as 50% when personalized subject lines are used.
  • A return on investment of 122% may be achieved by sending targeted emails.
  • Emails sent on a person’s birthday are 342% more profitable than other types of marketing.

Because of digital marketing, you have access to a wealth of data on your target audience, allowing you to tailor your message to each individual.

  • Get a feel for what kinds of content, offers, or communications people are most interested in from your website and social media statistics.
  • Lead forms with a few more fields may help you capture email addresses and the information you need for personalization.
  • A simple email lookup tool may provide you with a customer’s name, business, server location, and social media profiles for a manageable subscriber database.

Make it mobile-friendly

Users are less inclined to conduct business with a firm if they have a negative mobile experience, and if a site doesn’t load in three seconds, 53% of them will quit. Mobile optimization is essential since 70% of all emails are opened on a mobile device and all of your calls to action direct readers back to your website.

The mobile-friendly version looks like this:

  • There’s no need to scroll across the screen to read anything important.
  • Both the email and landing page are fast to load.
  • The controls are easy to see and use.
  • The font, size, and color all work together to make reading comfortable.

Keep in mind your current clientele even as you work to expand your business. An attractive offer and well-written email text may often revive a dormant client or reader. Check your records to discover what previous material they liked, then give them an updated version of it. Perhaps you can simply lower your prices.

What about the silent subscribers who never open your emails or click on your links? Get rid of them to make your email list less cluttered.

Determine the optimal email using A/B testing

Employ split testing to hone down on what your subscribers value most. Try with different email subjects, body text, layouts, call-to-action wording or button colors, and photos. To get reliable results from an A/B test, you should make just one change at a time.

Set up trigger emails

When a consumer does a certain action, a predetermined email response is delivered to them automatically. The open rate for triggered emails is 70.5% greater than the average since they are sent to readers at the optimal time. You may, for instance, send:

  • A follow-up email to customers who leave their shopping carts.
  • A request for comments following delivery.
  • An inquiry for feedback soon after the transaction has been made.
  • Once they join, you send them a warm welcome email.

Cultivate prospects into buyers

If your firm is consumer-facing and your product is inexpensive, a new email subscriber may quickly become a paying client. Yet, additional thought and consideration are required for large transactions and business-to-business marketing. The goal of a nurturing email campaign is to develop trust and conversions via a succession of incrementally better offers sent over time.

When someone joins your mailing list, they will get a confirmation email. In subsequent emails, you’ll want them to:

  • Download a quick reference guide.
  • Acquire a book in digital format.
  • Check out a webcast.
  • Study a case in detail.
  • Schedule a meeting with them today.

You’ve been offering nothing but high-quality, helpful information, and each “ask” has been incrementally more onerous than the last; by the time you ask them to schedule a consultation, they’ll be ready to do so. The lead-generating process would be incomplete without nurturing.

Make a connection by appealing to the audience’s emotions

Every consumer problem and want has an emotional root. Consumers need reassurance that they’re making the most of their investment.

marketing

With emotive marketing text, you may increase the open rate of your emails. Because of its personal nature and the flexibility afforded by tools like A/B testing and segmentation, email marketing is ideal for engaging customers on an emotional level.

Exhibit your values

Customers have higher expectations now than they had in the past. People prefer to spend their money with firms whose values they share and whose leaders see them as more than simply a way to achieve a goal. They want greater openness and honesty as well.

There are several methods to demonstrate your moral character:

  • Give it to them straight.
  • Communicate the results of your corporate social responsibility efforts.
  • Every message you send should finish with a thought-provoking remark that reflects your ideals.

Create a narrative

Stories, whether they’re three words or three hundred pages long, have the power to captivate and stay with the reader. Use these narrative techniques to boost your email marketing efforts:

Describe the background of your most recent offering and how it came to be created. Your audience will be curious to see the final product, and they’ll remember all the reasons why your products and services are the best.

Introduce a success story with a quick summary and a link to the full account. To improve things even further, you might begin by articulating the customer’s issue in a manner that connects with them, then by showcasing your remarkable achievements, and last by asking, “How did we do it?” and providing a “Find out here” CTA.

As a hook for the remainder of the email, use your imagination and share a personal tale.

Have a Tech Spring Clean to Save Cash and Make Money

Reading Time: 5 mins

There are over 40 million unused bits of technology cluttering up homes across the UK. If you have a few bits lying around, it’s time for a tech spring clean! Dig out those old unwanted mobile phones and broken tablets and see if you can earn yourself a decent chunk of cash.

Here’s our easy guide to help you find the best places to sell and recycle old tech online and get the best deals you can.

Before Parting With Your Tech

Clear your hard drives in your tech spring clean

So you’ve had a clear out and found a few devices you no longer use and are going to sell? Great.

But before you start selling make sure that any data is backed up and then deleted from the device. Then, restore each device to factory settings. While most third party sellers say they professionally reset every device they receive, you don’t want it falling into wrong hands. If someone can access your personal photos, passwords, or card and banking details, which most phones now automatically store, it could cause you serious trouble down the line.

Where to Sell

You can sell old tech in high street stores such as Cex, and there is an abundance of sites online where you can sell, too. Best practice is to shop around before selling to make sure you get the best deal, particularly if you’re selling a relatively new device.

Compare and Recycle is a great site to use! Simply search for the product you are selling and it’ll list prices being offered, how you can be paid and how long until you receive payment. It’s a good way to make sure you’re getting the best deals possible to make the most of your tech spring clean.

GIFFGAFF

Old phones can bring in an extra few pounds. If you update your phone every few years, chances are you have a couple of spares around the house. Networks such as giffgaff will buy these off you to put some extra cash in your pocket.

Music Magpie

No relation to us – except for the money making ethos! Music Magpie buys everything from mobile phones, to kindles, tablets, and laptops, to CDs and DVDs. It’s easy to use: start an order online by inputting the items you wish to sell and receive an instant quote.

To complete an order it has to reach a minimum of £5 and you can have a maximum of 500 items in one order. No worries if you have even more – you are allowed to complete as many orders as you wish.

During the current climate, Music Magpie is also supporting the NHS by donating £1 to NHS charities for every tech item traded-in and sold.

Money 4 My Tech

Money 4 My Tech buys a range of electronics including laptops, iMacs, tablets, games consoles, iPods, and headphones. Depending on the size of your items you can either borrow packaging from them for free and return when you send your order or request a collection from you. Both options are free of charge.

Ebay

The third party sellers make it easy to send of your old tech to them but it is worth checking out whether you can make any more money by selling it directly yourself. So much technology (used and broken too) is sold on eBay every year. Research yourself to see if people are selling similar items to yours and what prices they are selling for.

Where to Trade-In

Trading in is another option to recycle your old electronics and save money. If you’re looking to purchase a new version or upgrade then you can get better deals by agreeing to a voucher rather than hard cash.

On Wex Photo & Video it is easy to submit a request for an instant no-obligation quote. If you agree to the quote, you’ll receive credit you can spend in-store or online. They also offer regular trade-in bonuses with up to an additional £500 available.

Recently, Currys launched a new scheme, ‘Cash for Trash’, which allows you to trade in old electronics and appliances in exchange for vouchers.

Most phone service providers also welcome old phone trade-ins and will offer discounts off your next purchase in exchange for them. Samsung, for example, also offers serious discounts for wearable tech like the Galaxy Watch.

Make Money From Broken Electronics

Make money from broken tech

Devices not in working order still make money! Your tech spring clean hasn’t been futile – you can get cash for your broken tech.

eBay

eBay is a goldmine for broken technology – devices with smashed screens, broken buttons, and dead batteries are all being sold! A lot of people buy old tech on eBay to break down the items and use parts so it’s the perfect site to use to make money from your damaged items.

Make sure you are accurate in the description of the product you are listing and fully disclose the extent of the damage so it doesn’t backfire on you later on.

Gadget Salvation

Gadget Salvation is happy to take almost any device off your hands, even if it’s broken. It’s on a case-by-case basis, so you’ll need to fill out a form about your broken tech to get a quote.

Recycling Tech

Sending electronics to landfill is not only a waste of parts but begins to cause enormous environmental problems, too. Even if you don’t want the extra hassle of selling your old tech, make sure to recycle it and not put it in the rubbish.

Recycle Now is a very useful site that tells you how you can easily recycle your old tech – giving means they can sell on the products for cash, or take it to a household waste and recycling centre where they have an area specifically designed for electronics. Use the tool here to find your nearest electrical recycling point.

Tech Recycle is an ethical IT recycling company so you can declutter and do good too. You have to have enough qualifying items, but if so you can book a pick up with them where they’ll come and collect your items for free. They plant a tree for every 20 tonnes of electronics they recycle so a great cause to support if you can.

Your local tip will also have an area specifically for recycling old technology and gadgets, too.

How to Start a Vineyard Business

Home Business Magazine Online

Starting a vineyard business in Georgia can be an exciting and rewarding venture, like opening a casino. Georgia has a rich history of winemaking, and the state is home to a thriving wine industry. The region’s warm climate, fertile soil, and abundant rainfall make it an ideal location for growing grapes and producing high-quality wine.

If you’re interested in starting a vineyard business in Georgia, here are some key steps you should consider as part of your business plan:

1. Research the Market

Before you start planting vines and investing in equipment, it’s important to research the market for wine in Georgia. What are the trends? Who are the consumers? How are the wineries in the region doing? Understanding the market will help you determine the size of your vineyard, the type of grapes to grow, and the style of wine to produce. It will also help you estimate the potential revenue and profitability of your business.

2. Determine Your Goals

What are your goals for starting a vineyard business? Do you want to produce award-winning wines, or are you more interested in creating a profitable business? Are you planning to start small and grow gradually, or do you have ambitious expansion plans? Knowing your goals will help you make decisions about every aspect of your vineyard business, from the location and size of the vineyard to the types of grapes you plant and the style of wine you produce.

3. Choose a Location

Location is a critical factor in the success of your vineyard business. You’ll need to find a location that has the right climate, soil, and terrain for growing grapes. Georgia has a range of microclimates that can support different varieties of grapes, so it’s important to choose a location that is suited to the type of wine you want to produce. You’ll also need to consider other factors such as access to water, proximity to markets, and the availability of labor.

4. Develop a Business Plan

Once you’ve done your research, determined your goals, and chosen a location, you’ll need to develop a comprehensive business plan. Your business plan should include a detailed description of your vineyard business, including your goals, market analysis, location analysis, and financial projections. You’ll also need to include a marketing plan that outlines how you plan to promote and sell your wine.

5. Obtain Financing

Starting a vineyard business can be capital-intensive, so you’ll need to obtain financing to cover the costs of land, equipment, labor, and other expenses. You may be able to obtain financing from a bank or other financial institution, or you may need to seek out investors or partners to help fund your business. Your business plan will be a critical tool in securing financing, so make sure it is well-researched and well-written.

6. Plant the Vines

Once you have secured financing and obtained the necessary permits and licenses, it’s time to plant the vines. You’ll need to choose the right varieties of grapes for your location and climate, and you’ll need to plant them at the right time of year. You’ll also need to invest in equipment such as trellises, irrigation systems, and pruning tools to help your vines grow and thrive.

7. Produce the Wine

After several years of growing and nurturing your vines, it will be time to harvest the grapes and start producing wine. You’ll need to invest in equipment such as presses, barrels, and bottling machines, and you’ll need to hire a winemaker to help you create high-quality wines. You’ll also need to develop a marketing plan to promote and sell your wines to consumers and distributors.

Starting a vineyard business in Georgia can be a challenging and rewarding venture. By doing your research, developing a comprehensive business plan, and making smart decisions about location, financing, and equipment, you can create a successful vineyard business that produces high-quality wines and generates strong revenue.
