Meta apologizes after ad error causes campaigns to overspend by ‘thousands’

Meta issued an apology to advertisers following an Ads Delivery outage that resulted in campaigns overspending by “thousands.”

The tech giant confirmed that services are now restored and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to advertisers.

Refunds, anticipated to take between four and eight weeks, are now awaited by affected parties.

Why we care. If you were affected by the Ads Delivery outage, applying for a refund is necessary, but it’s important to note that payment is not guaranteed. To enhance the likelihood of receiving a full refund, there are specific steps you can take.

Refund application. Barry Hott, Growth and Performance Marketing Consultant, urged advertisers to report the issue to their Meta reps and/or support to “increase the likelihood of a refund for you and for everyone.”

Hott then shared a step-by-step guide to show advertisers how to raise a complaint. He recommended filing a report with Meta support and sending this exact message:

  • “My campaigns overspent their budgets and seemed to ignore their cost caps yesterday due to a confirmed widespread Meta ad delivery outage, causing campaigns to spend more than expected and did so extremely inefficiently, causing me to lose money.”
Abstraction

This should then bring you to the menu displayed in the screenshot below. Here, you will need to select “claim refund for ad spend.”

Barry Hott

You then need to choose your ad account and select “other ad account issue” as demonstrated in the screenshot below:

Business Finance

You’ll then be able to write another message – for this step, Hott recommended simply pasting the same blurb from earlier along with the below screenshot of the Meta Status Page:

Consultant

Next, start uploading screenshots showing your performance issues. Include all account IDs if you have multiple accounts. Answer support questions politely, considering their potential unfamiliarity with Meta ads and the outage. Hott concluded:

  • “Hopefully you’ll get to a point where they ask for the amount you are requesting for a refund. If you have estimates of what you think was lost, share that amount, but don’t be greedy, use a realistic estimate based on recent past performance.”
  • “This is our best chance at getting the refunds we deserve. I hope you found this helpful! Please repost or share this with your peers, and if you don’t already follow me or @MetaBizStatus (the automated account I set up that reports Meta outages), please do!”

Fallout. Several advertisers claimed to have lost thousands as a result of the Meta Ads Delivery outage.

One marketers wrote on X: “Woke up to a ~$80 credit from $6k down the drain. But my ticket is still unresolved and they emailed me at 5 am asking me to be patient as they are working it out.”

Another advertisers commented on X: “It blew thousands in minutes!”

On a Scale of 1 to 10, How Satisfied Are You with Your Job?

Home Business Magazine Online

We all deserve to be in a job that satisfies us. But how do you know whether your job is truly satisfactory?

Sometimes it’s easy to focus on the negatives and overlook the positives that a job can bring. In other cases, we may focus too much on single perks like good pay without considering all the other downsides of a job.

One way to determine your job satisfaction is to rank it on a scale of 1 to 10. You may already have an estimate as to where to rank it, but to get a precise idea consider seeing how many of the following 10 criteria you can tick off.

Pay

Are you satisfied with the amount of pay you’re getting? Is it enough to live comfortably on? Some jobs are very well paid, while others can leave us scrounging for extra cash at the end of each month. A low salary is the second most common reason people leave their job. In fact, frequent surveys have revealed that most of us believe we are underpaid. On top of your salary, it’s work also considering monetary benefits you may get such paid annual leave, health insurance and decent sick pay. If you’re self-employed, you won’t get any of this, but should consider the tax benefits.

Progression

Your job shouldn’t feel stagnant. There should be things to aim for — including promotions or pay rises — that keep you motivated. If you’re self-employed, there should be a sense that you can expand your business and make more money each year. Of course, some people may be happy working a job without any long-term benefits. However, most of us feel we need a sense of progression so that we don’t feel stuck on a hamster wheel. Consider whether your job offers this.

Autonomy

Autonomy is the freedom to make your own decisions. Running a business typically offers the most autonomy — allowing you to set your own hours, set your own rates and choose the work that you’re willing to take on. Being an employee offers less autonomy, but it can vary depending on the role. Some employers rarely interfere with employees’ work and offer perks like flexitime. Others micromanage their employees and require every small decision to be passed through them, which can lead to feelings of suffocation.

Job security

It’s important that you have a steady income and a role that you can depend on. In some companies, there is a constant threat of being dismissed, which can create a lingering sense of anxiety. If you’re self-employed, job security could mean having a steady stream of customers and a feeling that you are in a secure industry where you are easily able to adapt to changes.

Relationship with colleagues

The top reason many of us quit our jobs is because we don’t get on with the people we work with. It’s so important to have a good relationship with your colleagues. They do not need to be your best friends, but you should also feel that they have your support and that you can easily communicate with them if there is a problem. There should be no toxic behaviour like bullying, blame-shifting, gossiping or discrimination. This includes any managers or any subordinates.

Working conditions

How healthy is your work environment? Things like loud noise, uncomfortable temperatures, bad air quality and lack of ergonomics (such a desk with no legroom) can all be signs of poor working conditions. The best employers will go the extra mile to make sure employees are safe and comfortable. If you’re self-employed, you will likely have control over your working conditions.

Work/life balance

The definition of a ‘healthy’ work/life balance is likely to vary from person to person — but overall, there should be a sense that you have enough free time to get the rest you need, pursue personal interests and spend time with family/friends. Lengthy shifts, unsociable working hours, long commutes and regular overtime are all things that can lead to a poor work/life balance. Business owners can often struggle to get the balance right by not setting clear boundaries between work and personal life — this could include taking work calls at all hours, constantly covering sick employees or not taking time off.

Interest in duties

We can’t all get paid to follow our passions, however it is important to have an interest in what you do. If the job duties bore you or go against your beliefs, you could find yourself dreading each shift. Consider whether your job truly suits your interests and personality. Tests like the Strong Interest Inventory can help you to determine whether your job is suited to your interests. Of course, if you’re following a personal passion like music or sport, this may already be obvious.

Respect from others

Do other people respect your role? How others perceive our job can affect our own pride in what we do. Certain jobs like being a nurse or a firefighter can get a lot of respect from friends and family and the general public. If you work in telesales, you may find that you don’t have this same respect. You should also consider the respect you have from your colleagues. Do people respect your role? Or do people undermine you or belittle you for what you do?

Feeling of accomplishment

Finally, you should consider whether your duties bring you a sense of accomplishment. Some jobs can be gruelling, but there can be a sense of achievement after each shift. Working in construction is a prime example of this — you can see the progress you’re making with each passing day. Of course, if you’re constantly being criticised for making mistakes or if you feel your work is an assembly line of the same duties, you may lack this sense of accomplishment. It is important to receive praise from others and also to feel that you are truly making a difference with your work.

So, just how satisfied are you with your job?

Tick off the boxes below to find out your score from 1 to 10. If your score is 8 or over, this is a sign that your job is satisfactory and possibly worth sticking with. If your score is between 4 and 7, this is a sign that you need to do something to improve your current job or potentially look elsewhere if this is not possible. If your score is 3 or under, you should probably start looking for a new career straight away.

  • Pay
  • Progression
  • Autonomy
  • Job security
  • Relationship with colleagues
  • Working conditions
  • Work/life balance
  • Interest in duties
  • Respect from others
  • Feeling of accomplishment

How Being an Influencer in Your Industry Can Positively Impact Your Career

Home Business Magazine Online

When you think of the word “influencer,” what immediately comes to your mind? Is it someone taking selfies? Content creator? Is it someone recycling posts on LinkedIn? How about someone making TED Talks? In general, all of these could be considered qualities of an influencer; there’s no denying that whatsoever. But one thing that keeps coming up would be the fact that there is this subtle expectation to be known out there.

Recruiters now want to see that you have a following; they want to see what content you’re creating, and if you’ve always dreamt of stepping into some different digital marketing careers or anything involving the marketing industry within itself, then this is something that you’ll absolutely need to think about as well. In general, there is this small expectation that just seems to be growing more and more. There’s the whole “personal brand” and things like that, but is it worth it?

Is it worth going through the time and effort? Well, there’s a chance that it might actually be! It’s honestly one of the more common ways to lead yourself towards success. So, with that all said, is it a good idea? Well, here’s exactly how working towards being an influencer in your industry could actually impact your career.

You’re Defining Influence in a Digital Era

Influence, in the digital context, refers to the ability to affect the opinions, decisions, and actions of others within a specific niche or industry. This influence is often built through consistent content creation, engagement with followers, and the cultivation of a personal brand that resonates with a target audience. So basically, you’re showing off that you know what you’re doing. One glance at your profile, and the assumption is immediately there that you know exactly what you’re doing.

It Shows Off That You Have Credibility

One of the most significant benefits of becoming an influencer in your industry is the opportunity to establish yourself as a credible and authoritative voice. While yes, it is a lot of work, by consistently sharing valuable insights, expertise, and opinions on relevant topics, you position yourself as a thought leader within your niche. This can lead to increased visibility, recognition, and respect from peers, potential employers, and industry stakeholders.

Ideal for Expanding Your Network

As an influencer, you have the ability to connect with a diverse array of individuals within your industry, from fellow professionals to potential collaborators and mentors. Building and nurturing these relationships can open doors to new opportunities, whether it’s partnerships, speaking engagements, job offers, or career advancements.

It’s way harder to get your foot in the door if you lack that credibility, and that’s why being an influencer could massively help you out. Your network becomes a valuable asset, providing support, guidance, and access to resources that can help propel your career forward.

You’re Boosting Your Brand into New Heights

There’s this slow shift, but nowadays, everyone has their personal brand, and this personal brand is connected to their professional brand. If you want to be an influencer, your personal brand and professional brand need to be one. Sure, it’s so much work, but it’s still going to take your brand to new heights that non-influencers won’t be able to do.

You’ll Be Driving Innovation

It’s really unfortunate to think, but unless you’re running your own business and have the right connections, it’s going to be really hard to drive innovation. So, you really need to keep in mind that influencers have the ability to spark conversations, challenge norms, and drive innovation within their industries.

Again, it’s assumed they’re credible, so people want to hear them, their thoughts, and what they’re going to do. So, just by sharing fresh perspectives, pushing boundaries, and advocating for change, you can inspire others to think differently and embrace new ideas. This not only positions you as a forward-thinking leader but also contributes to the evolution and growth of your industry as a whole.

It’s Easier to Navigate Career Change

The influence you wield within your industry can be a powerful asset when navigating career transitions and seizing new opportunities. To a degree, even if it’s a totally different industry you want to step into, it’s usually going to be easier, all thanks to the credibility and the following that you were able to make for yourself. Whether pursuing a promotion, exploring entrepreneurship, or seeking new ventures, your established reputation and network can open doors and facilitate smooth transitions.

Honestly, just embracing change with confidence and adaptability enables you to leverage your influence to chart a dynamic and fulfilling career path.

You’re Making an Impact

Again, for most industries, unless you’re really big, what you have to say tends to get swept under the rug. Most folks want to make an impact in their industry, but yeah, it can be really hard to do so. That’s why working towards being an influencer could help.

So, with that said, ultimately, being an influencer in your industry is about leveraging your platform to make a positive impact — whether it’s by educating, inspiring, or empowering others. By sharing your knowledge, experiences, and insights, you have the power to shape conversations, influence decisions, and drive meaningful change within your field. And in doing so, you not only elevate your own career but also contribute to the collective growth and advancement of your industry.

You’re Empowering Others

This essentially piggybacks on what was being said above; you’re getting the chance to empower others who might feel like anything they say or do will be swept under the rug or will flat out not get any recognition that they deserve. On top of that, influence carries a responsibility to inspire and empower others within your industry. It’s only fair to show others that their journey can be like yours — you’ve had challenges, you’ve had successes, and you’re authentic.

Seriously, you have the potential to motivate aspiring professionals, fostering a culture of mentorship and growth. Empowering others not only strengthens your network but also cultivates a legacy of positive impact, leaving a lasting impression on the next generation of industry leaders.

Breathe Life into Your Backyard: A Guide to Getting Your Garden Ready for the Summer

From cleaning up clutter to embracing the latest trends in garden furniture, this guide will walk you through the steps to transform your garden into the perfect summer haven.

Declutter and Refresh

Let’s start with a clean slate. Before you dive into the aesthetics, it’s essential to clear out the remnants of winter and give your garden a fresh start. Remove fallen leaves, twigs, and any debris that may have accumulated. Consider investing in a reliable rubbish removal service to efficiently dispose of unwanted items and green waste, ensuring your garden is a canvas of possibilities. Using professional waste disposal company, such as topwasters.co.uk could be very efficient and same time and money, getting ready of your garden for next stage.

Garden Furniture Trends

Now that your garden is a blank canvas, let’s talk about the statement pieces that will define your outdoor space. Embrace the latest trends in garden furniture to create a stylish and comfortable environment. In 2024, sustainable materials like bamboo and recycled plastic are making waves. Look for furniture that seamlessly blends functionality with aesthetics, providing a cozy space for relaxation and entertainment.

Online marketplaces like Etsy, Wayfair, and Amazon are buzzing with a variety of options. From bohemian-inspired hammocks to minimalist lounge sets, these platforms offer a plethora of choices to suit your personal style. Keep an eye out for multifunctional furniture that can be easily rearranged, adapting to different social scenarios or providing a cozy spot for solitary moments.

Lawn Care and Lush Greenery

Your lawn is the heart of your garden, and a lush green carpet sets the stage for a picturesque summer retreat. Begin by assessing the health of your grass. If there are bare patches or thinning areas, consider overseeing with high-quality grass seeds. Opt for varieties that thrive in your local climate and soil conditions.

Regular watering, aeration, and fertilisation are crucial for maintaining a healthy lawn. Embrace eco-friendly lawn care practices by using organic fertilisers and minimising the use of pesticides. A well-nourished lawn not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also provides a soft, inviting space for outdoor activities.

Colourful Additions and Floral Delights

Infuse vibrant colours into your garden by introducing a variety of flowering plants. Consider incorporating a mix of annuals and perennials to ensure a continuous display of blooms throughout the summer. Container gardening is a versatile option, allowing you to experiment with different plant combinations and move them around as needed.

Explore the latest trends in garden colours, with muted pastels and bold jewel tones taking centre stage. Think about creating themed areas within your garden, such as a cozy reading nook surrounded by fragrant blooms or a vibrant dining space where you can enjoy al fresco meals.

Outdoor Lighting Magic

Extend the enjoyment of your garden into the evening hours with thoughtfully placed outdoor lighting. String lights, lanterns, and solar-powered garden stakes are popular choices that add a touch of magic to your outdoor space. Create a warm and inviting atmosphere by strategically placing lights along pathways, around seating areas, and highlighting key garden features.

Consider incorporating smart lighting options that can be controlled through mobile apps, allowing you to customise the ambiance with ease. Smart solar lights, in particular, are an eco-friendly choice that harnesses the power of the sun to illuminate your garden after dark.

Functional and Stylish Storage

Every well-kept garden needs clever storage solutions to keep tools, cushions, and other essentials organised. Look for stylish storage options that complement your overall garden aesthetic. Weather-resistant storage benches or decorative outdoor chests not only provide a practical solution but also serve as additional seating or decorative elements.

Explore online marketplaces for a range of storage solutions that combine functionality with style. Consider materials that withstand outdoor conditions, ensuring your storage units remain durable and attractive throughout the seasons.

As you are getting your garden ready for the summer, envision it as an extension of your living space — a place to unwind, entertain, and connect with nature. From the latest trends in garden furniture to lush greenery and creative lighting, each element contributes to the overall ambiance. Embrace the warmth of the season, infuse your personality into the design, and watch as your garden becomes a cherished retreat for the sunny days ahead. Happy gardening!

Google warns Universal Analytics 360 users must migrate to GA4 ‘urgently’

Google issued an urgent warning to Universal Analytics 360 users, reminding them that they must migrate to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and complete a historical data export before March.

Why we care. Failure to take action within the next two weeks could result in the loss of critical advertising capabilities.

Next steps. If you are a UA360 user, Google advises taking the following steps before the end of February to ensure a smooth transition to GA4.

  • Migrate your Universal Analytics property’s Google Ads links to your GA4 property and do one or both of the following in your Google Ads account:
    • Import Google Analytics 4 conversions and switch to bidding on them instead of the corresponding Universal Analytics conversions.
    • Add Google Analytics 4 audiences to a campaign or ad group (for remarketing).
  • Export historical data.

GA4 sunset. From July 1, you will not be able to access any UA properties or the API (not even with read-only access), and all data will be deleted. Google is advising migrating to GA4 by March so that you have three months to validate data and settings.

While the standard sunset took weeks to complete, the full UA shutdown will happen within a week.

Why is GA4 replacing UA? Google cited the “constantly changing technology and regulatory ecosystem” as the driving force behind the mandatory migration from UA to GA4. The search giant developed this new analytics platform to meet the evolving technological and regulatory demands, ensuring compliance and functionality in the current landscape.

What Google is saying. Google Ads liaison office Ginny Marvin said on X:

  • “If you’re a UA360 user, please act urgently to migrate to GA4. If you do not migrate by March you will lose critical advertising capabilities that will no longer be supported in UA360 for affected traffic in the EEA.”

Google Analytics 4 adds new consent mode setting section

Google Analytics 4 has a new consent setting section that is now available to all users globally.

The platform added this feature in preparation for the enforcement of Google’s EU User Consent Policy (EU UCP), which will require advertisers to send it verifiable consent signals if they want to serve personalized ads in the UK and European Economic Area (EEA).

Google cautioned that neglecting to adhere to this policy could adversely affect ad campaign performance, impacting both reach and return on investment

Why we care. The new consent mode setting section will make it easier and quicker for users to confirm that their consent mode v2 is properly passing consent signals to their web streams.

What Google is saying. A Google spokesperson told Search Engine Land:

  • “This new page aims to make it easier for Google Analytics advertisers to understand how to set up consent mode and whether or not Google Analytics has recently received consent signals with their analytics data.”
  • “It also provides links to our most helpful guides and CMP partner page, if they are interested in using a CMP to get them setup.”

Who’s affected by EU UCP? Google’s EU User Consent Policy applies only to end users located in the EEA or the UK.

EEA explained. The EEA is made up of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

Why now? With regulatory changes and events like third-party cookie deprecation planned for later this year, advertisers need to implement solutions like consent mode to ensure their audience and measurement solutions like GA4 continue to work effectively without disruption.

What is a certified CMP? A Google-certified CMP is a platform approved by Google to assist businesses in managing user consent for online advertising and data collection, adhering to the IAB’s Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) v2. Check if your CMP is certified by viewing Google’s full list of certified CMPs here.

Get your consent in order. Consent Mode, a tool in GA4, enables businesses to honor users’ consent preferences from cookie banners or widgets. This allows Google Analytics to dynamically adjust its behavior. For instance, if users decline consent, Consent Mode helps clear up uncertainties in the consumer journey, providing a full performance overview.

6 Factors to Consider When Looking for a New Office Space

Home Business Magazine Online

So, you’re thinking of moving to a new office space. There are many reasons you might be looking to relocate. Perhaps you need to be closer to the central business district, or find a more convenient location for you and your staff to get to work. Maybe you are expanding, and your current premises can no longer accommodate the growing number of people in your team.

Whatever your reasons, finding a new office space can be a real challenge. There are so many factors to think about and people to consider when making the decision. You want to pick the premises that are best for your business while also ensuring that your employees are happy with the change too.

But once you have made the move your business will benefit from the improved location, increased space, and change of scenery. You will experience increased productivity and staff wellbeing as a result.

So, how can you pick the perfect office while minimizing any disruption and loss of profits caused by the move? Here are a few key factors to consider when searching for a new commercial premises.

Budget

Money is a big part of the decision-making process. Even though you may be upgrading to a bigger and more expensive office in a more desirable location, you need to be sure that you can afford it. It’s important to set a budget for the move, working out exactly how much in rent you can afford to spend each month. Make sure you only search for offices that are within your chosen budget. It’s important to note that you also need to factor in the cost of the move itself, as there will be all kinds of expenses including the removal firm, packing supplies, and any new furniture and equipment your premises will require.

Location

The area in which your office is located is key. Do you want to be in the heart of the city, or are you happy being located in a more scenic business park out of town? Offices located in the central business district of a city will be more expensive, but you will benefit from improved accessibility, networking opportunities, and local amenities. A more remote office may be cheaper and less crowded, but it may be harder to schedule face-to-face meetings with partners and clients. Consider your preferences and need to work out which location is best for you.

Accessibility for your workforce is also a major draw. Some members of the team may prefer to drive into work, so consider how easy it is to get to the office by road. Is there a lot of traffic in the morning? Is there free parking on site? For those who take public transport, consider the ease of getting into work by bus or train. If it is a thirty minute walk from the nearest station, it may be too far for many people.

Size

You need your office to be large enough to easily accommodate your existing team and equipment. It shouldn’t be a squeeze, with people crammed into tiny desks and jostling past each other for space. In fact, if your business is likely to grow in the future you should factor this into your decision. The last thing you want is to have to move again in a year’s time when you add several more employees to your workforce.

Lease Agreement

When renting an office space, it’s important to review the lease agreement and come to an arrangement you are happy with. Do you want an extended 12-month contract or are you happy to go with a rolling month-by-month contract. Opting for a longer term may be cheaper in the long run, and you will be less affected by price changes. However, a shorter rolling contract gives you a little more flexibility if you do decide to move again.

Logistics

There is a lot to think about when getting set up in a new office, but you want to ensure your business can get up and running right away. If your staff are still figuring out the logistics of their new surroundings, it may take some time for productivity to increase. Your employees will no doubt want to know about information like parking facilities, public transport, local amenities, office infrastructure, internet, and more. Will you need to get new local phone numbers, or can you simply transfer your old number to your new location? All of these logistical factors play a huge part in the decision-making process and will ultimately determine whether or not a particular premises is the right choice for your business.

Aesthetics

An office of course needs to be functional, but it should also be aesthetically pleasing too. Your staff spend a significant portion of their waking lives in the office, so it should be an environment that makes them feel happy and positive. They don’t want to work in a dreary, gray, miserable environment. So, when looking at potential new locations, make sure you consider the visual appeal of the place. Is it brightly coloured? Does it get plenty of sunlight in the day? Is there lots of space to move around or is it cramped and stifling? Put yourself in the mindset of your employees and decide whether or not you would be happy working here every single day.

It’s important to note that the office doesn’t have to be visually perfect right away, as long as there are opportunities to decorate the interior. Check the lease agreement to see whether or not you have permission to paint the walls and make major design changes. By adding a splash of color or hanging up some attractive artworks, you can turn any office into a positive and happy environment.

In conclusion, these are just a few of the important factors you will have to take into account when choosing your new office space. Of course, very few locations are 100% perfect so you will have to make compromises to keep everyone as happy as possible. Good luck finding your new location!
