3 steps for effective PPC reporting and analysis

How you provide performance reports or insights can impact the rest of your project.

If a client or boss doesn’t understand your analysis of what’s happening in their PPC accounts, that can lead to more questions and stress for all parties – even if you’re doing great work.

The three steps outlined below will give you a solid foundation for PPC reporting that keeps everyone on the same page, establishes trust and makes your job easier in the long run.

Common metrics and trends to focus on
Common metrics and trends to focus on

The first step is easy. Simply review the account’s performance metrics, add a comparison date range and note any significant trends.

What someone thinks is “significant” may vary depending on who the report is delivered to.

It’s best to focus on the most relevant metrics before highlighting anything else and tailor your approach as needed.

Example 1: The main goal for a B2B software client is to drive leads efficiently.

  • All your reports should start by highlighting conversion-oriented metrics, such as form submissions, cost per conversion, conversion rate, etc.

Example 2: The main goal for your ecommerce company is to drive sales.

  • All reports should start by highlighting sales-based metrics, such as revenue, purchases, return on ad spend, etc.

Secondary metrics (for any account) might include click-through rate, cost per click, cost per thousand impressions (CPM), or search impression share. These give you a sense of overall visibility, efficiency and engagement.

While clicks and impressions can help identify trends in traffic and search volume, the focus should be on actual results – especially if you’re presenting to people at the executive or C-suite level.

This means that clicks and impressions may not be the best metrics to hone in on in your analysis.

It’s also important to highlight negative trends in addition to positive ones.

Transparency builds trust, prevents stakeholders from getting caught off guard by lower performance and helps you better control the narrative and next steps.

Dig deeper: 3 ways to stay on top of PPC performance

The next step is to define what your highlighted metrics actually mean.

Many people forget to do this because they know the terms. But not everyone knows as much as you do!

Providing that extra context ensures all parties interpret the data properly and prevents people from drawing inaccurate conclusions or focusing on things that might not matter in the long run.

Some common metrics and what they translate to in real terms include:

Overall volume

  • Impressions: How much search volume there is or how large your audience may be.
  • Clicks: How much traffic is driven to your website.

Reach / visibility

  • Search impression share: How much coverage/visibility you have.
  • Cost per thousand impressions (CPM): How efficiently you reach the target audience.

Efficiency

  • Cost per click (CPC): How efficiently you drive traffic/engagement.
  • Cost per conversion action (CPA): How efficiently you drive results.

Engagement

  • Click-through rate (CTR): How effective/relevant your ad copy and creative is.
  • Conversion rate: How effective/relevant your landing page or targeting is.
  • View rate: How effective/relevant your video is.

let name = cname + “=”;
let decodedCookie = decodeURIComponent(document.cookie);
let ca = decodedCookie.split(‘;’);
for(let i = 0; i <ca.length; i++) {
let c = ca[i];
while (c.charAt(0) == ' ') {
c = c.substring(1);
}
if (c.indexOf(name) == 0) {
return c.substring(name.length, c.length);
}
}
return "";
}
document.getElementById('munchkinCookieInline').value = getCookie('_mkto_trk');

Step 3: Identify reasons for performance shifts

The last step is to note any potential causes behind the trends you called out. This is where you can flex your expertise and let people know the value you bring to their organization.

  • Did the click-through rate increase after you recommended and launched new ad copy?
  • Are you seeing a jump in conversion rate after updating your landing pages?
  • Did lead quality improve after adding negative keywords and placement exclusions in the previous month?

Give yourself some credit and highlight those changes in the report!

It’s also important to do this for negative trends because identifying the cause of a decline will help you determine the next best course of action.

For example, you see a decrease in impression share and an increase in average CPC.

You review the Auction Insights and notice a new competitor has entered your market.

Now you can strategize an approach to the situation and present a solution before it causes a bigger dent in performance.

That said, there might not always be a clear-cut reason for performance shifts.

In this situation, taking a step back and looking at the industry at a macro level can be helpful.

  • If you’ve seen a drop in conversions, conversion rate, and impressions (i.e., search volume) for seemingly no reason, you might be experiencing seasonality. One way to verify this would be to check Google Trends data for your top terms. Another option is to meet with the sales team (or ask your client to meet with theirs) to discuss whether other channels are also seeing a dip in performance.
  • The same applies when you see an unexpected improvement in account performance. This can also be a good time to ask about testing additional budget so that you can take advantage of high conversion intent.
  • If you still aren’t sure what might be causing a shift (like dealing with conflicting data points), check how you compare to industry benchmarks. You might find that you don’t stack up well compared to others. In this case, you can determine the next steps as needed (e.g., below-average CTR means you should test new ad copy or creative). If you’re above average, you may see a short-term trend that isn’t a huge cause for concern.

Putting it all together

By approaching reports using the process above, your analysis should end up looking something like this:

Sample PPC report analysis

The result is a clear overview of:

  • What’s happening in the account.
  • Why it’s happening.
  • What you plan to do next if action is needed.

In turn, clients and stakeholders typically feel more comfortable with the numbers they see and hear.

They may then have a greater appreciation and understanding of your work, leading to more trust and a willingness to test more. And that’s a win for everyone!

Benefits of Anthracite Coal

Home Business Magazine Online

Anthracite coal, the highest rank of coal, is a crucial component in the steelmaking process. Its unique properties make it an ideal fuel source and a vital ingredient in the production of high-quality steel. The use of this type of coal in the steel industry is widespread due to its high carbon content, low impurities, and remarkable heat energy. From 2018 to 2020, Maxim Barskiy was the general director of Sibanthracite, a major market player.

Anthracite coal is renowned for its high carbon content, typically ranging from 86% to 98%. This high carbon content makes it an excellent choice for steel production, as carbon is a key element in the steelmaking process. During the smelting process, anthracite coal reacts with iron ore, producing carbon monoxide, a reducing agent. This carbon monoxide then reacts with the iron ore’s oxygen, reducing it to elemental iron, which serves as the basis for creating steel. The legacy of success of Barskiy Maxim was well-established in 2018 when he was confirmed as the general director of the Sibanthracite Group.

Furthermore, anthracite coal possesses low levels of impurities, such as sulfur and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Sulfur can negatively impact steel quality by causing brittleness and reducing its durability. The relatively low sulfur content of anthracite coal minimizes these adverse effects, ensuring the production of high-quality steel. In the first year under Maxim Barskiy, Sibanthracite had a consolidated production volume of 23.7 million tons.

The integration of anthracite coal in the steel industry extends beyond its primary role as a fuel source. Finely ground anthracite coal, known as coal dust or coal dust breeze, is used as a material in various steelmaking processes. It acts as a reducing agent and can also enhance the mechanical properties of the final steel product. Additionally, coal dust is used as a feedstock in the production of synthetic fuels, reducing the dependency on natural petroleum resources.

How Sports Betting Has Developed over the Past Decade

Home Business Magazine Online

Sports betting is a practice that dates back centuries, but it has evolved dramatically even over as short a period of time as the past decade. Technological advancements and changing perspectives have transformed sports betting into a global phenomenon.

The earliest traces of sports betting can be found in ancient civilizations like the Greeks and Romans, who engaged in wagers on various athletic contests. Fast-forward to today, and sports betting has become a multi-billion-dollar industry with a widespread presence, both offline and online.

Early Sports Betting History and Its Evolution

The roots of betting on sports can be traced back to ancient civilizations, where competitions played pivotal roles in society. There is evidence that the Greeks would place bets on the outcome of large sporting events such as the ancient Olympic Games, viewing it as a form of entertainment intertwined with their cultural practices.

Similarly, chariot races and gladiator contests would draw Roman audiences from far and wide to amphitheaters which led to the emergence of betting markets surrounding these events. This historical foundation laid the groundwork for the evolution of sports betting into the diverse and expansive activity we see today.

Variety of Sporting Events

The defining feature of modern sports betting is that of variety. Formerly, bettors could wager on just a handful of popular sports — like horse racing and football — and these sports still attract the lion’s share of total betting capital today.

Roughly $150 million is bet each year on the outcome of the Super Bowl in the state of Nevada alone, and it appears next year will be no different. You can check the odds to win Super Bowl LVIII, here.

The modern landscape, however, encompasses an array of emerging sporting disciplines:

  • Esports – The rise of competitive video gaming has introduced a new realm for sports betting, drawing in a younger audience that is deeply connected to this virtual world.
  • Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) – Combat sports like MMA have gained a global following thanks to franchises like the UFC and huge personalities like Connor McGregor.
  • Tennis, Golf and Motorsports – Previously considered niche betting options, these sports have garnered increased attention as they have modernized. From the four major tennis championships to the Masters and the F1, the internet has democratized sports that people are passionate about, transcending geographical locations.

The Shift to Online Betting

The digital era, facilitated by the explosion of the smartphone, has ushered in a revolutionary change in the way people place their bets, with online platforms providing numerous advantages over traditional brick-and-mortar establishments:

  • Options – Online sportsbooks offer a vastly larger range of events and markets to bet on, catering to both mainstream and niche interests.
  • Security – Reputable online platforms employ state-of-the-art encryption and security measures, ensuring that personal and financial information remains safeguarded.
  • Convenience – The convenience of placing bets from the comfort of one’s home or on-the-go via mobile apps eliminates the need to physically visit a betting location.
  • Access to Information – Online platforms provide bettors with a wealth of statistics, analyses and real-time data, empowering them to make informed decisions.

The Rise of Live Betting

Live betting, also known as in-play betting, has become a game-changer in the sports betting landscape. Unlike traditional pre-match betting, which involves predicting outcomes before an event starts, live betting allows individuals to wager on various aspects of a game as it unfolds.

This dynamic form of betting adds an extra layer of excitement and engagement, as bettors can respond to changing circumstances and take advantage of emerging opportunities. It also plays to the strengths of customers with specialized knowledge of a particular team or discipline.

Imagine seeing your star striker in blistering form and being able to place a bet in seconds that they will be the next player to score. Now you can with in-play betting, which is offered by most reputable sportsbooks via their apps or websites.

Cash Out Feature

The “Cash Out” feature allows bettors to take control of their bets before an event is concluded. This means that if a punter feels uncertain about the outcome as the game progresses, they can choose to cash out their bet for a certain amount, often based on the current state of the event and the original odds they placed the bet at.

This feature is invaluable when the game doesn’t seem to be going as predicted, allowing bettors to minimize potential losses. The “Cash Out” feature is not only strategic but also adds an interactive element of excitement to a game.

From its historical origins in ancient civilizations to the diverse range of options that are just a click away, the sports betting landscape today looks practically unrecognizable from its roots. The integration of online platforms and the introduction of live betting have redefined the betting experience, making it more interactive and engaging than ever before.

5 essential PPC skills every agency pro must have

Most digital agencies today are willing to hire beginner marketers.

Unfortunately, many do not provide meaningful training on pay-per-click (PPC) marketing. Even worse, some colleagues might hide or misrepresent essential information.

While you can find much of that information online for free, it’s often a complicated mess.

To address this, here is a basic five-step growth plan to become a PPC expert as fast as possible.

1. Master client relationship

I realize it may sound cliché for the top skill.

But after over a decade working in PPC (and training hundreds of specialists), it’s by far the primary reason for PPC people to climb the agency ladder.

Why? Because you’re responsible for driving your client’s growth – and that’s a people-first business.

Be aware PPC expectations are high, and performance is never a straight, easy line.

You’ll have to fix stuff that people think is critical or convince those same people not to touch anything despite what they perceive as red flags.

And that can quickly become stressful, getting in your way when it comes to handling relationships.

To go through these relatively tough times all while keeping your client happy and on board, you’ll need to display composure, explain technical and analytical concepts in plain English – and remain patient!

So how do you master client relationships, you ask? It’s a deep topic to unpack in a few lines, but here are some pointers to get you started.

Build trust

Trust comes with time. Whenever your client needs you for real, make sure to be the one person your client knows he or she can rely on.

Let’s take an example: picture a last-minute project that really matters to your client but not so much to you. (Not to mention that it’s slightly out of your scope.)

An untrustworthy agency point of contact would not support this client. But you should.

With trust comes long-term, impactful achievements.

Show expertise

Believe it or not, I’ve seen plenty of agency people not preparing for client meetings. Some don’t anticipate questions and can only respond with “I’ll get back to you.”

Do not be that person. Send meeting agendas in advance.

Provide meeting notes, action points, and deadlines.

In short, be reliable.

Be empathetic

Not everybody behaves the same way. And not every meeting has to be sunshine and flowers.

You don’t like your client that much?

Guess what, that’s OK.

Give them a break: not everybody likes you either, anyway.

Make sure to be the person in the room who makes the project go forward, even if times are tough and people are getting rigid.

2. Think strategically

OK, I know. Strategy is one of those buzzwords, along with cloud computing, innovation, big data and blockchain. However, it remains absolutely vital for successful agency PPC specialists.

What does it mean to be strategic? It varies a lot based on the field you work in.

Just read this HBR strategy article, and you’ll see it doesn’t quite apply to day-to-day PPC work.

So, with all its flaws, allow me to provide a very PPC-centric, operational strategy definition:

  • “Strategy is a combination of items that allow long-term, significant business growth. Significant being at least 30% of your top KPI.”

In other words, thinking strategically means prioritizing your efforts based on the outcome.

Here is an example to help make it clearer. Next time you want to run an A/B test, go through the following steps:

  • Take a hard look in the mirror.
  • Identify if your A/B test doesn’t drive a 30% growth in your top KPI.
  • Reprioritize using higher-impact items.

PPC beginners will rarely work on operational strategy. However, if you can understand the above, it’s a great starting point.

To help you get to the next step, here is a media plan-like framework to structure your strategy thinking:

Goals

For ecommerce clients, it will often be revenue paired with return on ad spend (ROAS).

With lead gen clients, marketing qualified leads (MQLs) will be paired with cost per MQL.

Can you challenge those?

For example, include margin to improve ROAS. Or MQL value instead of simply MQL volume.

Budget

It will either be “unlimited as long as you hit a specific ROAS target” or a specific $ number per month/year. Can you challenge that?

For example, is the budget allocated to the right product line or geo to maximize your goal? Is seasonality taken into consideration?

Targeting

You want to reach a target audience. To do that, you will want to use ad networks and channels. Sometimes, those items aren’t set up to maximize your goals.

When you find such pockets of growth, you can think strategically.

Messaging, landing page and CTA

Now, that seems like an obvious one, right?

Careful, though, since there’s never just one way to talk to prospects and have them act to reach your goal.

Use your critical thinking and Ads Libraries to develop other (hopefully better!) ways to address your target audience.

if (c.indexOf(name) == 0) {
return c.substring(name.length, c.length);
}
}
return "";
}
document.getElementById('munchkinCookieInline').value = getCookie('_mkto_trk');

3. Navigate data with precision

Isn’t data another buzzword? Sorry about that! 😀

Let me break down that data skill set and provide PPC beginners a clear path.

There are lots of data-related roles, but as a PPC beginner, you should think about data in three ways:

  • Data analysis: Do you understand each KPI in-depth? For example, do you know how CTR impacts CPC?
  • Data generation: Do you understand what a conversion is, how it’s triggered and how to check these parameters are OK?
  • Data visualization: This is a tiny bit more advanced, but can you tell a story from the data you gathered?

Again, that can sound a little out of touch so here are real-world tools to get you started:

In PPC, you must build reports to understand traffic sources, conversion attribution, conversion rates per funnel stage, product-level performance, etc.

So get busy learning GA4 and other related analytics tools.

Dig deeper: Google Analytics 4 guide for PPC

At the very least, you want to understand what event triggers your conversions.

More often than not, that means using GTM’s preview mode and testing your client’s website live. Make sure you understand how it works.

Don’t make the rooky mistake of throwing lots of KPIs at your clients who will not understand a thing you just said because they hate Excel.

Spend time vulgarizing your data to craft a compelling story that’s both easy to understand and impactful.

And to do that, you can use powerful visualization graphs and tables within tools such as Looker Studio.

Dig deeper: 5 things your Google Looker Studio PPC Dashboard must have

4. Commit to learning every day

This is the skillset where I’ve seen tons of PPC people skip steps, unable to fix that later down the road. This paves the way for poor operational and managerial performance.

Take your time; no rush here.

Primary PPC channels are undoubtedly Google Ads and Meta Ads. Most clients will use either or both of these ad networks. What’s the issue with that, you ask?

It’s the Dunning-Kruger effect.

Too many people handle a few campaigns in Meta Ads and believe they know the platform inside out.

Some others will run SKAG campaigns in Google Ads their whole life without realizing there’s a whole world outside of this structure.

In short: you want to build a solid foundation of technical knowledge for those primary ad networks (at least) but also be open to challenge that foundation now and then.

Don’t believe the hype that says PPC changes every few days, but don’t get stuck in your old habits either!

So, how can you get started as a PPC beginner? Here are some pointers:

Get certified

Google Ads certifications aren’t very useful.

But they have a great advantage: they provide an equal starting point for PPCs, vocabulary, perspectives and more.

Similarly, Meta offers training and certifications, so be sure to use those.

Read news

If you’re reading this, then you know Search Engine Land is a great resource to stay up to date and learn new stuff.

Make sure to follow other content creators. For example, you can read Jon Loomer for everything Meta Ads or follow agencies’ blogs.

Test on your own

Google Ads and Meta Ads offer ad credits for new advertisers. And it’s never been easier to set up a shop since Shopify started out.

Don’t be afraid to run your side project. It will be a safe place to experiment with and learn.

Network

All projects are different and you will never be able to master them all on your own.

By talking to other PPC peers, you will basically take shortcuts to PPC mastery.

And did I mention it’s super cool to talk to people who understand what you’re going through?

5. Get organized

Am I stating the obvious? PPC is a detail-oriented world, so you will quickly realize you need a second brain to keep up with everything without going crazy (or destroying an account).

Even the tiniest hiccup can have dramatic repercussions on performance. Good luck finding that needle in the haystack six months later!

So as a PPC specialist, you should be comfortable with:

Project management

Do you know tools like Monday.com, Asana, Notion, and so on? If not, use them.

You want to organize your projects and tasks using priorities, deadlines, dependencies, etc.

It will provide you with a clearer view on your schedule and work.

Documentation tools

Like project management tools, you want to remember and understand what happened on specific dates for future reference.

For example, do you know what happened on Nov. 29, 2019? 😉

Templatize your work

Running into the same task over and over again? It sounds like a perfect case study to templatize.

This way, you won’t have to reinvent the wheel every time. And you’ll be able to delegate that easily when the day comes up, paving the way for a great managerial career.

Essential PPC skills that every agency pro should master

PPC is about more than choosing the right keyword match type or writing ad copy.

Once you layer the above skills on top of the technical nitty-gritty, you are ready to move up the agency ladder.

First look at Google Ads’ enhanced customer service for small businesses

Google Ads has started rolling out its paid customer support service for small businesses.

PPC expert Natasha Kaurra spotted the new feature on her account for the first time and decided to provide a sneak preview of what it looks like on X (formerly known as Twitter).:

Advertising

As you can see in the image above, the enhanced customer service pilot is located in a box to the right of the Google Ads screen.

To book a one-on-one consultation with a Google Ads rep, you simply need to click on the icon and pay a fixed fee of $50 per call.

However, the new tool is still in beta and so is not yet available to everyone.

Why we care. Small business owners using the program can get specialized advice faster by using this premium service, which has historically only been accessible to Google Ads’ biggest clients.

What’s next? Google will collect feedback from participants. In time, Google hopes to roll the service out to more small- and medium-sized businesses. A Google spokesperson said:

  • “These changes are part of a long-term strategy that we’ll be building on over time, testing, and learning as we go.”

Protecting Employee Rights: A Guide to Challenging Wrongful Termination

Home Business Magazine Online

Greetings, I’m Joseph George, a partner at George & George ADR Group. I hold certifications as a Florida Supreme Court County Mediator and a qualified arbitrator. With a background as a paralegal and HR professional, I also bring expertise as a certified EEO investigator. Over the years, I’ve built substantial experience collaborating with attorneys and various agencies on employment claims. In the forthcoming article, I will delve into the topic of wrongful termination, discussing cases, providing resources, and offering insights into the concept of wrongful termination along with guidance on appropriate courses of action.

Embarking on the journey to find a suitable company to work for to support our family and cover our expenses is no easy task. The pursuit of the ideal job within a company boasting a positive culture can be challenging. However, unforeseen hurdles can emerge, such as encountering a problematic manager or being caught off guard by the company’s excessive use of HR writeups and disciplinary actions to pressure you into resigning.

When you decide to take action against the company or manager for making your work environment hostile, reaching out to the HR department might result in a response indicating that you’re not a fit for the company, leading to a parting of ways. Note that reaching out to HR, preferably with a written complaint noting specific dates, times, individuals and a specific reference to the type of discrimination being alleged is REQUIRED. These words of shock hit like a heavy blow, leaving you astonished that after dedicating your utmost effort to the company, they would dismiss you for fulfilling your duties. This scenario, unfortunately, occurs more frequently than one might expect, even for experienced HR professionals and EEOC investigators. Employees often sacrifice personal life and family events for their commitment to a company, only to face unjust treatment from certain managers or owners who might feel threatened by their competence and decide to remove them from the team. Remember, your employer has rights too and they do have the right to know if one of their employees is behaving in an illegal way and be given an opportunity to correct the problem. If they correct it, they are safe from being sued.

I’ve witnessed countless instances of wrongful terminations and heard numerous stories of employees being let go unfairly. However, many employees are unaware that they have a legal standing against their employers or believe they can’t afford legal representation. It’s essential for employees to be aware that several attorneys work on a contingency basis, only requiring payment if they win the case, or offer free consultations. Additionally, legal aid organizations affiliated with state bar associations can offer assistance, and some attorneys engage in pro bono work to support employees in need.

From dealing with difficult bosses to contractual breaches, wrongful termination is more prevalent than commonly perceived. Instances where former employees sue their previous employers for wrongful termination often involve retaliation. This often occurs when an employee speaks out against workplace discrimination, harassment, or illegal activities and faces termination as a form of punishment. Any retaliation must be based on your rights under protected laws. Retaliation because of non-discrimination, FCRA, Title CVII, FMLA, work comp, or whistleblower claims is actually not illegal and this can be very confusing for employees. This is why a consultation with an attorney is absolutely necessary to determine if you have a case. Though you might think you have a case and you have been wronged, that’s not always true and can be quite frustrating.

Every day, numerous employees are dismissed in ways that contravene the law, often without realizing they have a legal claim against their employers until it’s too late. Determining whether a termination is lawful or not can be perplexing. Wrongful termination arises when an employee is fired in violation of the law, such as due to discriminatory motives in retaliation for reporting safety violations, or when it breaches the terms of an employment contract. Write to HR and follow your company’s procedures for reporting the discrimination. Most employers will do an investigation and find that there was no wrongdoing. This is obviously in their best interests to find you have no reason to sue them. They do this even when they know illegal activity occurred to dissuade employees from seeking attorneys and to avoid having to pay.

If an employee believes they’ve been wrongfully terminated, they can consult an attorney and possibly take legal action against their employer, seeking compensation for lost wages, benefits, and other damages. The process involved in pursuing a wrongful termination claim is intricate and may require demonstrating the employer’s intentions or establishing a legal violation.

Wrongful Termination in an At-Will State:

The concept of “at-will” employment is familiar to many, yet its legal implications often remain unclear. In simple terms, at-will employment signifies that both the employer and the employee have the freedom to terminate the employment relationship at any time and for any reason. The exception to this lies in the prohibition of termination by an employer for reasons that contravene the law. It’s worth noting that the term “wrongful termination” can be misleading, as letting go of an at-will employee for reasons that might seem unjust, unfair, or unverified isn’t necessarily against the law. Rather, wrongful termination legal matters revolve around whether the termination was prompted by unlawful factors, such as discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, a hostile work environment, or a violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

What does it mean to be in an “at-will” jurisdiction? In states that uphold “at-will employment,” employers possess the authority to dismiss employees without needing to provide a specific “just cause.” In other words, termination can occur for valid, invalid, or even arbitrary reasons, BUT NOT ILLEGAL REASONS.

However, even within at-will jurisdictions, employers are prohibited from firing employees for illegal motives. If your termination is based on unlawful grounds, you have the option to take legal action for wrongful termination. These processes take a long time. With the EEOC it can take 180 days minimum to get a right to sue. Once you go to court, it can take at least 18 months just to get to trial and the legal process is frustrating, time consuming, requires compliance with hundreds of procedures, and though you see it as a simple “I was terminated because I am …..” it is actually not so simple as the Defendant will deny everything and make you prove every fact in court and through discovery first. If you don’t prove it through discovery, you could be subject to a judge dismissing your case based on your employer’s motion for summary judgment and then you don’t even get to see a jury or trial. Attorneys can explain all of this to you.

Nevertheless, the at-will employment structure doesn’t grant employers unrestricted freedom to take any action whenever they please. It’s important to recognize that even in “at-will” states, employees have the right to challenge their employer’s actions under specific circumstances. This applies to Florida as well, where employees retain the ability to sue their employer for wrongful termination. Taking appropriate action is crucial if your rights have been violated, and assembling pertinent evidence plays a vital role in constructing a solid case against wrongful termination.

Depending on your unique situation, collecting relevant documentation can significantly strengthen your case. Some examples of documents that might prove useful include:

  • Employee handbooks and other employment policy records
  • Paystubs, work schedules, and employee performance evaluations
  • Pertinent correspondences like emails, memos, or letters
  • Text messages, videos, or any other documentation that pertains to your case

While most employment is considered “at will,” allowing employers to terminate employees for various reasons, there are crucial exceptions to this rule, along with legal avenues that can help one retain their job or take legal action against their former employer for wrongful termination.

Cases of Wrongful Termination:

Marija Stone v. GEICO General Insurance Company lawsuit was settled for $265,000.

California Federal Jury Awards Former Walmart Pharmacist $27M In Wrongful Termination Suit.

Walmart pharmacist complains of illegal practices by Walmart in its pharmacy, claims she was retaliated against and fired.

Q&A:

Q Can my supervisor fire me if he simply does not like me?

A The viability of this situation hinges on the underlying reasons for your employer’s unfavorable stance. For your case of wrongful termination against your employer on these grounds, substantiating that their unfavorable sentiment was rooted in a protected characteristic, or a safeguarded activity is essential.

To illustrate, your claim could hold merit if you possess evidence demonstrating that your employer’s aversion towards you stemmed from factors like your race, sexual orientation, or gender. Furthermore, if your employer’s disapproval arose from your recent complaints regarding illegal wage and hour practices or instances of harassment (such as sexual harassment), your claim could also be valid. However, if the discord between you and your supervisor was primarily a result of personality clashes or differing approaches, that alone would not establish a foundation for pursuing a wrongful termination allegation.

Q What is constructive discharge?

A A situation of constructive discharge, also known as constructive termination, arises when an employer fosters a hostile work environment that leads to working conditions becoming so unbearable that an employee is compelled to resign. The legal framework of constructive discharge employs an objective criterion in assessing these working conditions. This entails the employee demonstrating that a rational person in the same role would have deemed the work environment unendurable and would have had no alternative but to resign.

Q How soon after I’ve been fired should I consult or hire an employment attorney?

A Time is of the essence in this matter, as statutes of limitations diverge from state to state, and EEOC claims also adhere to specific timeframes for filing. Wrongful termination claims are subject to varying statutes of limitations, which can sometimes be shorter than six months. Delaying the consultation with an attorney may lead to a total restriction on your ability to seek redress for your wrongful termination, potentially depriving you of the rightful compensation you are entitled to. It’s imperative to act promptly to safeguard your legal rights and pursue the compensation you rightfully deserve.

Termination for Exercising Your Legal Rights Resources:

If your employer fired you because you exercised rights under a state labor law, report your termination to your state’s labor department.

If your employer fired you because you exercised rights related to leave, wages, or overtime, complain to the Department of Labor.

You can also reach out directly to their Wage and Hour Division’s local office.

Before you sue your employer for discrimination, you must file a report with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Seek legal counsel if your employer wrongfully fired you for a reason not under state or federal law.

Battery Safety in Vaping & Why It’s Important

Home Business Magazine Online

In the world of vaping, battery safety is not just a precautionary measure; it’s an absolute necessity. As vaping has grown in popularity, so too have the incidents of battery-related accidents. Whether you’re new to vaping or a seasoned enthusiast, understanding battery safety is crucial for your well-being and the longevity of your vaping experience. Let’s delve into why battery safety matters and how you can ensure safe vaping.

The Basics of Vape Batteries

Vape devices are powered by lithium-ion batteries, the same type of batteries used in smartphones, laptops, and other portable electronics. These batteries are known for their high energy density and ability to provide long-lasting power. However, they also come with potential risks, such as overheating, venting, or even exploding if not handled properly.

Why Battery Safety Is Paramount

  • Preventing Accidents: The most compelling reason for prioritising battery safety is to prevent accidents. Mishandled batteries can lead to thermal runaway, a situation where the battery’s internal temperature increases uncontrollably, potentially causing it to catch fire or explode. Such incidents can result in injuries, property damage, and even life-threatening situations.
  • Device Longevity: Proper battery care doesn’t just safeguard your safety; it also prolongs the life of your new vape device. Regularly maintaining your batteries and following safety guidelines can prevent premature wear and tear on your device, saving you money in the long run.
  • Maintaining Performance: Vaping with well-maintained batteries ensures consistent performance. When batteries are compromised, they may not provide the required power, leading to an unsatisfactory vaping experience. By maintaining battery safety, you’ll ensure that your device operates at its best.

Battery Safety Tips

  • Purchase Quality Batteries: Always buy batteries from reputable manufacturers and authorised sellers. Counterfeit or cheap batteries might not meet safety standards and can pose a significant risk.
  • Use Battery Cases: When not in use, store your batteries in a dedicated battery case, away from other metal objects or loose change that could cause a short circuit.
  • Check for Damage: Inspect your batteries regularly for any signs of damage, such as dents, scratches, or tears in the battery wrap. If you notice any damage, replace the battery immediately.
  • Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Exposing your batteries to extreme heat or cold can impact their performance and safety. Store them at room temperature and avoid leaving them in direct sunlight or in a freezing environment.
  • Don’t Overcharge or Overdischarge: Overcharging your batteries can lead to overheating, while overdischarging can damage the battery’s capacity. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for charging and discharging.
  • Match Batteries: If your device requires multiple batteries, make sure they are the same brand, model, and have similar usage history. Mixing different batteries can lead to imbalanced charging and potentially dangerous situations.
  • Use the Right Charger: Invest in a charger specifically designed for your battery type. Chargers with safety features like overcharge protection can help prevent battery-related accidents.

Meta rolls out new search tool to track branded content campaigns

Meta has launched a new search tool that tracks branded content campaigns.

The feature, titled “Search Branded Content”, is located in the Ads Library and gives users the option to filter the database by platform, date range (currently, only the previous seven days is available) and username.

From here, you’ll get deeper insights into competitor strategies, including details on their approach, creator-business relationships and campaign frequency.

Why we care. Gaining insights into the influencers your competitors collaborate with and staying informed about rival campaigns can serve as valuable inspiration. This information can influence your brand’s decisions regarding partnership choices.

How it works. Social media expert, Lindsey Gamble, shared a screenshot of what the new search tool looks like on X (formerly known as Twitter):

Ads Library

Within the post, Gamble shared a video demonstration illustrating the new feature’s navigation. The video showcases how users can use the tool to gain insights into campaigns involving specific influencers and brands.

When applying the influencer filter, the tool presents an overview of their ongoing campaigns and brand collaborations. Conversely, users can also opt to filter results by brand, revealing the influencers associated with their current campaigns.

Why now? Meta’s decision to improve transparency around branded content campaigns comes as the European Union brings the Digital Services Act into force on Friday – a regulation that puts more onus on large platforms with more than 45 million regional users to create safer digital spaces.

What has Meta said? Commenting on the new Branded Content search feature, Meta said:

  • “Ads are just one way for businesses to promote a product or service on Facebook and Instagram. They can also work together with a content creator to promote something in a post, story, video or reel. Meta provides transparency about this type of content by showing a paid partnership label on it and by including it in the Ad Library.”
  • “Use the branded content search to find posts, stories, videos and reels on Facebook and Insatgramt that involved a Paid Partnership. You can filter by app and date.”
  • “[This tool] is for anyone who wants to see content from a creator who has worked together with a business.”

Threads is widely rolling out on the web

Meta is widely rolling out its web version of Threads.

This move is aligned with the company’s goal of introducing fresh features to tackle its retention challenges.

Why we care. The expansion to the web could potentially enhance Threads’ active user count and provide a solution to its retention issue. While Threads currently doesn’t display ads, brands utilizing its paid promotion options might experience substantial growth in reach and potentially higher conversions.

How it works. The web version of Threads, threads.net, works in a similar way to the app. Upon visiting the website, users are asked to provide:

  • A username, phone number or email address
  • A password

The log-in details are the same that you use to log into Instagram.

Upon accessing the web app, the homepage layout closely mirrors that of the mobile version, showcasing an app bar with identical tabs. Notably, the Threads web homepage includes a dropdown menu allowing users to toggle between light and dark themes, report issues, access the about page, or log out.

Usability. Web users are currently able to post a thread, scroll through their feed and interact with others in the same way that they are on mobile. However, there are certain mobile-specific functionalities that are yet to be introduced to the web version. For instance, profile editing is currently unavailable.

Meta is currently addressing these issues and expects a fix to be implemented in the coming weeks.
