Make £300 before the weekend with these money making opportunities.
It is our mission to help readers make, save and manage money. That’s why we love to tell you about money-making opportunities we hear about. A good friend of MoneyMagpie sent us two opportunities to make some good money this week.
Mel is a journalist who is undertaking two investigative pieces and needs people to speak with this week. Find out more about the opportunities below.

ARE YOU STAYING WITH YOUR PARTNER FOR FINANCIAL REASONS?

Here is what Mel says:
“I’m a journalist working on a sensitive feature for a national newspaper about UK women who are staying with their partner for financial reasons. It’s not that you’re extremely unhappy or anything bad has happened, just that without any financial constraints you might have decided to part ways as you suspect you’d be happier apart and moving on to pastures new.
“I would need you to be identified for the article and to provide photographs and probably need a comment from your other half acknowledging it too. I am more than happy to read the article back to you prior to publication.
“You would be paid £300. If this is you and you’d be happy to appear in a tabloid newspaper please do email me on mel.fallowfield@btinternet.com.”

did you cheat on your partner after watching a rom-com?

Here is what Mel says:
URGENT….did you cheat on your partner after watching a rom-com?
I’m looking for a UK woman to be interviewed today (15 February 2023) about how watching a rom-com made you deeply dissatisfied with your relationship and caused you to cheat or leave. Perhaps it made you realise how stale your relationship had become, or perhaps someone cheated in a film and that made you want to do it. Perhaps you just craved more romance in your life.
It doesn’t need to be in your current relationship – could have happened in the past. If this is you and you’re happy to be appear in a tabloid newspaper with a photograph please do email me on mel.fallowfield@btinternet.com. I will read the article back prior to publication and you will be paid £200.
If either of these money-makers appeal to you, contact Mel at mel.fallowfield@btinternet.com.

Google publishes new link best practices

Google has published a new link best practices in their SEO and search developer documentation. Originally it was a document about how to create crawlable links, but the document has been to include not just how to make links crawlable but also:

  • Anchor text placements
  • How to write good anchor text
  • Internal links within your content
  • External links from other sites

The first section is very similar to the original document, which you can see on the Wayback Machine. The new document now reads, “Generally, Google can only crawl your link if it’s an <a> HTML element (also known as anchor element) with an href attribute. Most links in other formats won’t be parsed and extracted by Google’s crawlers. Google can’t reliably extract URLs from <a> elements that don’t have an href attribute or other tags that perform as links because of script events. Here are examples of links that Google can and can’t parse:”

Anchor text placement

Google said, “Anchor text (also known as link text) is the visible text of a link. This text tells people and Google something about the page you’re linking to. Place anchor text between <a> elements that Google can crawl.”

Google also provides some examples of good and bad written placement anchor text.

Writing anchor text

This is another new section where Google wrote, “Good anchor text is descriptive, reasonably concise, and relevant to the page that it’s on and to the page it links to. It provides context for the link, and sets the expectation for your readers. The better your anchor text, the easier it is for people to navigate your site and for Google to understand what the page you’re linking to is about.”

Google also provides some examples of good and bad written anchor text.

Internal links

Google notes that there is no specific number of links you need and writes, “You may usually think about linking in terms of pointing to external websites, but paying more attention to the anchor text used for internal links can help both people and Google make sense of your site more easily and find other pages on your site. Every page you care about should have a link from at least one other page on your site. Think about what other resources on your site could help your readers understand a given page on your site, and link to those pages in context.”

External links

Google talks about the trust factor of links, how sites who link to you can do so, using the nofollow for spammy links and what about paid links.

Google wrote, “Linking to other sites isn’t something to be scared of; in fact, using external links can help establish trustworthiness (for example, citing your sources). Link out to external sites when it makes sense, and provide context to your readers about what they can expect.”

Why we care

SEOs are obsessed with links, and rightfully so, they are an important ranking factor for most modern search engines. So anything Google publishes on the topic should be read by SEOs for them to make decisions about how to manage their link building and management practices.

Meta aims to increase transparency in ad targeting for Facebook and Instagram users

Facebook has just launched an updated version of its “Why am I seeing this ad?” tool which now includes information on how they use machine learning to deliver ads. The tool will provide information on how your activity on and off our platforms informs the machine learning models. It will also include new examples and illustrations to explain how these models connect various topics to show relevant ads.

Additionally, there are now more ways to access ads controls from different pages in the tool.

What’s new. From the Meta support site:

Beginning today, the “Why am I seeing this ad?” tool on Facebook will include:

  • Information summarized into topics about how your activity both on and off our technologies — such as liking a post on a friend’s Facebook page or interacting with your favorite sports website — may inform the machine learning models we use to shape and deliver the ads you see.
  • New examples and illustrations explaining how our machine learning models connect various topics to show you relevant ads.
  • More ways to find our ads controls. You will now be able to access Ads Preferences from additional pages in the “Why am I seeing this ad?” tool.”

Why Meta is making changes. Meta says they collaborated with privacy experts and stakeholders to gather feedback on increasing transparency in their ads system. One of the main suggestions was to be more transparent about how their machine learning models contribute to the ads people see.

Meta says they’re committed to using machine learning responsibly and being transparent about its use is vital to ensure people are aware of the technology involved and the data used.

“By enhancing transparency, we aim to increase accountability and help people feel more secure. The updates to “Why am I seeing this ad?” aim to provide clear information about machine learning models used to deliver ads. These are the latest developments in our continuous efforts to improve our ads transparency and provide better understanding of our data and technology use.”

Find the “Why am I seeing this ad?” feature. To access the “Why am I seeing this ad?” tool on Facebook, click on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of any ad in your feed. You can still hide ads from specific advertisers and access your ads preferences within the tool. The updated version is currently available on Facebook globally and will be expanded to Instagram in the future.

Dig deeper. You can read the full announcement from Meta here.

Why we care. This tool enhances transparency and provides users with clear information about the ads they see. By being transparent about the use of machine learning and the data used to deliver ads, users may feel more comfortable with the ads they see and may be more likely to engage with them.

Though this could be seen as a bad thing for advertisers, it forced brands to rethink their targeting. By doing so, it can potentially lead to higher engagement rates and better return on investment. Additionally, by understanding how the tool works, advertisers can improve their ad targeting and content to reach their desired audience more effectively.

Instagram is ending its live shopping feature in March

Meta’s “year of efficiency” is kicking off with killing the livestream shopping business on Instagram. Effective March 16, 2023, users will no longer be able to tag products while live streaming.

The move reflects the challenges of making livestream shopping successful in the US market, in contrast to its popularity and profitability in Asian markets. Despite the early traction of businesses like TalkShopLive, NTWRK, and Brandlive, as well as adoption by big tech companies like Meta, Amazon, and YouTube, the difficulties persist.

The effects of the pandemic are still felt. During the pandemic, online retail surged, but after things returned to normal, analysts found that U.S. consumers had not fully embraced live shopping, which only made up 5% of total e-commerce sales in the country. Even TikTok scaled back its live commerce plans due to low sales. The cultural and digital differences between Western markets and China may explain why live commerce has not been as successful in the U.S.

No live commerce. Though Meta is ending its live shopping feature on Instagram, they say they remain invested in shopping as 90% of users follow at least one business on the site.

Rather than live shopping, Instagram will prioritize advertising as a main way for users to discover businesses and shop. This includes its automated Shop ads and Advantage+ shopping campaigns to improve ad performance, as well as continuing to invest in checkout. Instagram recently removed the Shop tab and relocated Reels, in response to user criticism over the overemphasis on video content. Despite the end of live shopping, Instagram will still allow creators to host Q&As and invite guests, and businesses can still set up and run a shop on the platform.

Why we care. Though Meta says they’re focusing more on Instagram ads, we don’t know yet what that means. But for now, advertisers may need to adjust their strategies to account for the removal of the Shop tab and consider new ways to capture users’ attention and drive conversions.

A Guide to Evaluating Home Warranty Providers

Home Business Magazine Online

You should purchase the greatest house warranty policy you can afford to safeguard your most valuable investment. Reason enough to check out many home warranty providers before settling on one. Identifying the qualities of a reliable home warranty provider and assessing their relative merits is the topic of this blog. We will also emphasize a few of the most important considerations for you to keep in mind as you make your choice.

A Home Warranty; What Is It?

When important home systems and appliances break down, a home warranty may help cover the costs of repairs or replacements. This may comprise the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning unit, as well as the plumbing and electrical systems.

Even though they are not required by law, home warranties may provide you comfort in knowing that you will not be financially responsible for major repairs. These agreements are normally sold for a year and may be obtained from several different providers.

What Factors Define a Reliable Home Warranty Provider?

To put it simply, not all home warranty providers are the same and will be more suitable for your requirements than others. There are a few essentials to consider when contrasting home warranty providers.

Coverage

The coverage of your protection should be among your top priorities. It’s crucial that the insurance provider you choose protects anything of value to you. It is vital to read the tiny print since some firms offer restricted coverage. Make sure that the policy covers everything that is needed to be covered, including your home’s equipment and systems. If not, you could have to pay for any necessary maintenance or replacements out of pocket.

A home warranty coverage will depict one year’s worth of repairs and maintenance. There are other home warranty companies 2023, like Elite Home Warranty that provide longer plans that are priced more affordably on a yearly basis.

The Ability to Tailor Service Packages

Adding a personal touch to your service plans is another essential consideration. Some businesses may provide you with a selection of predetermined plans, while others will give you more leeway to design your own.

This is crucial since you should only get the insurance that protects you from actual risks. Spending money on insurance you will never need is a waste of money. Equally important is making sure that your current level of protection is sufficient. Don’t risk having to pay for costly repairs or replacements out of your own money by having insufficient insurance coverage.

Fees and Expenses Each Year

The yearly price and service costs are another element to think about. If you need to make use of your warranty, you may be subject to additional fees, either on an annual or per-service basis, from the respective businesses. You could also have to pay a deductible.

You may save money by shopping around and comparing prices among multiple providers. Still, it’s not always wise to go with the cheapest alternative. After all, you want security and protection, not the cheapest policy possible.

Claim Response Wait Period

One other item to think about when anything goes wrong at home is how quickly the warranty company will pay out on your claim. Be sure the firm you choose is a firm with a rapid response time when you file a claim and a reliable system in place for expediting repairs or replacements.

Waiting weeks or months for a solution to your problems is the last thing you want. When filing a claim, the top home warranty providers will get back to you within twenty-four to seventy-two hours.

Competency

Experience is crucial when it comes to home warranties. Be sure the firm you choose has a solid reputation and has been around for some time. This ensures that they will be available whenever you need them and that they have the resources to deal with any problem that may crop up.

An Enjoyable Purchasing Experience

Having a good experience as a client is crucial when selecting a home warranty provider. Verify the company’s reputation and customer satisfaction with previous clients to feel confident in your decision.

Reading reviews on the vendor’s website is a great starting point for this. In this manner, you may learn from the mistakes of others and identify warning signs based on the accounts of others who have gone before you.

Helping out the Customer

When deciding on a home warranty provider, it’s also crucial to consider the quality of their customer service. Make sure the firm you choose has responsive, helpful customer support agents on hand at all times.

Your worst nightmare is to contact a business and either wait for hours on end before someone picks up the phone or hears crickets. In case of any emergency, the top home warranty providers will have someone ready to talk to you around the clock.

Allows You to Choose the Repairperson

When anything breaks down at your house, you want to be able to choose someone you are comfortable with and who has the necessary skills.

The top home warranty providers will provide you with a list of contractors you may choose from to do the work. In this approach, you won’t have to wonder whether the person to hire is competent or trustworthy.

When deciding on a home warranty provider, there are several details to think about. Things like coverage, service plan customization, yearly prices, and service fees, claim response time, industry knowledge, pleasant customer experience, customer care, letting you select the technician, and so on may all play a role in deciding which provider you ultimately choose.

Elite Home Warranty; The Warranty Industry’s Fastest-Growing Business

It is essential to examine all of these aspects of potential home warranty providers side by side. You may be certain that you are receiving the most suitable protection for your requirements this way. One such expert service provider is Elite Home Warranty, which can provide you with all-encompassing protection and assurance at a cost that is accessible to you.

You can find out more things about their plans and how they compare to those of other top home warranty providers by visiting their website right now. You can rest easy knowing you have the finest protection possible when you sign up for Elite Home Warranty.

With Elite Home Warranty, you can log in as a member and be able to make changes to the specifics of your policy or plan which may be done online. It is possible that you may need to get in touch with customer support based on the phase of the monthly cycle that you are now in or the particulars of the payment arrangement that you have in place. Your commitment to pay for Elite Home Warranty must be renewed every year. You may make payments for support fee renewals as well as support few payments by phoning customer service using the internet.

If you do not have a guarantee on your important home components, such as your appliances and systems, it would cost you a significant amount of money to repair or replace them. Elite Home Warranty is one of the most reliable service providers that provide coverage for these types of items. They provide a free trial for the 1st month along with a discount of $100 for the First 30 days of the trial and give the service free of charge for the 1st month. They have received certification from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) which is an organization that provides unbiased evaluations of firms and informs consumers about successful companies operating in any industry.

Just like last years Excision show at the Armory, The Evolution brought an electrifying audiovisual experience for thousands of Twin Cities EDM enthusiasts. The shows can be compared to 1-day music festivals with 6 artists performing each night. Home Business had the opportunity to attend one night of the shows and it was an exhilarating experience. Bainbridge started the night with a (head)-bang with their energizing drops. Next came HOL! and CALCIUM with two more rounds of heavy drops and venue-shaking bass. FuntCase brought the drums and bass-heavy drops that kept the crowd’s adrenaline pumping through the halfway point of the night. The final opener of the night was a staple DJ on Excision’s tours, Virtual Riot. His deafening dubstep, bone-shaking future bass, and high-gloss electronic pop got the already-estatic crowd head-banging to every drop.

Finally, Excision took the stage with an electrifying show that combined his signature earth-shattering bass and unique rhythm with an impressive 180 degrees of jaw-dropping pyrotechnics. These included crisp visuals on the massive main screen and miniature screens surrounding the crowd. EDM enthusiasts certainly got a set to remember with lights that perfectly synced up to the head-bang worthy drops and sharp lasers that cut across every inch of the venue. There wasn’t an attendee in sight after the show without a blissful smile on their face after every drop of energy was expended.

AI generates article with ‘serious’ YMYL content issues

Men’s Journal is the latest publication to be called out for using AI to generate content that contained several “serious” errors.

What happened. 18 specific errors were identified in the first AI-generated article published on Men’s Journal. It was titled “What All Men Should Know About Low Testosterone.” As Futurism reported:

Like most AI-generated content, the article was written with the confident authority of an actual expert. It sported academic-looking citations, and a disclosure at the top lent extra credibility by assuring readers that it had been “reviewed and fact-checked by our editorial team.”

The publication ended up making substantial changes to its testosterone article. But as Futurism’s article noted, publishing inaccurate content on health could have serious implications.

E-E-A-T and YMYL. E-E-A-T stands for expertise, experience, authoritativeness and trustworthiness. It is a concept – a way for Google to evaluate the signals associated with your business, your website and its content for the purposes of ranking.

As Hyung-Jin Kim, the VP of Search at Google, told us at SMX Next in November (before Google added “experience” as a component of E-A-T):

“E-A-T is a template for how we rate an individual site. We do it to every single query and every single result. It’s pervasive throughout every single thing we do.”

YMYL is short for Your Money or Your Life. YMYL is in play whenever topics or pages might impact a person’s future happiness, health, financial stability or safety if presented inaccurately.

Essentially, Men’s Journal published inaccurate information that could impact someone’s health. This is something that could potentially impact its E-E-A-T – and eventually the rankings – of Men’s Journal in the future.

Dig deeper: How to improve E-A-T for YMYL pages

Although, in this case as Glenn Gabe pointed out on Twitter, the article was noindexed.

While AI content can rank (especially with some minor editing), just remember that Google’s helpful content system is designed to detect low-quality content – sitewide – created for search engines.

We know Google doesn’t oppose AI-generated content entirely. After all, it would be hard for the company to do so at the same time as it is planning to use AI chat as a core feature of its search results.

Why we care. Content accuracy is incredibly important. The real and online worlds are incredibly confusing and noisy for people. Your brand’s content must be trustworthy. Brands must be a beacon of understanding in an ocean of noise. Make sure you are providing helpful answers or accurate information that people are searching for.

Others using AI. Red Ventures brands, including CNET and BankRate, were also called out previously for publishing poor AI-generated content. Half of CNET’s AI-written content contained errors, according to The Verge.

And there will be plenty more AI content to come. We know BuzzFeed is diving into AI content. And at least 10% of Fortune 500 companies plan to invest in AI-supported digital content creation, according to Forrester.

Human error and AI error. It’s also important to remember that, while AI content can be generated quickly, you need to have an editorial review process in place to make sure any information you publish is correct.

AI is trained on the web, so how can it be perfect? The web is full of errors, misinformation and inaccuracies, even on trustworthy sites.

Content written by humans can contain serious errors. Mistakes happen all the time, from small, niche publishers all the way to The New York Times.

Also, Futurism repeatedly referred to AI content as “garbage.” But let’s not forget that plenty of human-written “garbage” has been published for as long as there have been search engines. It’s up to the spam-fighting teams at search engines to make sure this stuff doesn’t rank. And it’s nowhere near as bad as it was in the earliest days of search 20 years ago.

AI hallucination. If all of this hasn’t been enough to think about, consider this: AI making up answers.

“This kind of artificial intelligence we’re talking about right now can sometimes lead to something we call hallucination. This then expresses itself in such a way that a machine provides a convincing but completely made-up answer.”

– Prabhakar Raghavan, a senior vice president at Google and head of Google Search, as quoted by Welt am Sonntag (a German Sunday newspaper)

Bottom line: AI is in its early days and there are a lot of ways to hurt yourself as a content publisher right now. Be careful. AI content may be fast and cheap, but if it’s untrustworthy or unhelpful, your audience will abandon you.

PPC prioritization: Knowing where to focus efforts to make the biggest impact

Maria Corcoran has been at Microsoft for about a year and a half. Before that, she was part of the in-house team at Adobe. In her SMX Next 2022 session, she discusses the evolution of page search and what that means for advertisers and brands.

The advancement of technology has led to the creation of third-party tools that have bidding algorithms and the ability to advertise on multiple search engines such as Google, Bing, Yandex, Baidu, etc. Those tools have replaced the manual processes of bidding and campaign optimization, allowing page search managers to focus on more meaningful tasks. However, the question arises on how to trust the bidding algorithms and the data being uploaded, as well as the automation being done by the tools. This has led to the need for page search managers to find new ways to add value to the company and prove their worth.

Corcoran says that one area where page search managers can add value is by spending their time on high-impact items and deeper analysis to drive insights that other channels cannot provide. This includes understanding the keywords and phrases that people are searching for and using that analysis to help the business focus its efforts. Testing is another area where page search managers can add value, by determining the impact of tests on the bottom line and prioritizing them among other channels.

It is also important for page search managers to evaluate the right KPIs and understand how they fit into the funnel for page search. This may involve pushing back on mandates from stakeholders and ensuring that the KPIs align with the overall goals of the business. The presentation will cover various topics related to testing, including new features and opportunities, the impact of tests, and the priorities of other channels.

Testing at Microsoft

A testing planning sheet was devised at Microsoft to prioritize tests based on their impact on the bottom line. The sheet included information about the quarter in which the test will be run, the channel it will run in, the test and learning categories, a description of the test, the type of approval needed, the reporting timing, the expected performance impact, an estimated budget, and a test theme. The sheet also includes the business opportunity that the test is aiming to achieve, beyond the actual hypothesis.

Corcoran says this type of information was presented to stakeholders to ensure that the testing approach is well thought out and takes into account the impact on the bottom line. The testing planning sheet helps to find the right balance across all proposed tests and channels, as they all aim to drive improvements to the bottom line. The focus is on providing a comprehensive understanding of the test, including the business opportunity and the expected impact, rather than just a hypothesis.

Impact and outcome

The expected impact is a crucial aspect of testing, as it outlines the goals and objectives of the test. In this case, the expected impact of running a test for free in Excel is to drive users to test the free version, convert them to active monthly users, and eventually upsell them to the paid version. The learning questions for the test include understanding the cost per monthly user, whether the free keywords will result in any paid subscriptions, and other related questions.

The approach for the test involves laying out the keywords, ads, landing pages, and deployment strategies. The campaign information includes the exact campaigns that will be run, the flight dates, keyword themes, device types, markets, and landing page. It is important to be specific about the targeting and to consider regional holidays, promos, and localization when laying out the test approach.

Finally, the measurement approach is crucial, as it outlines the primary KPI for success, the optimization metric, and the goals of the test. The optimization metric should align with the KPI goal and be something that can be ingested into the bidding algorithms. The primary KPI for success should be identified, but it is okay if it is not met, as this goes into the learning questions bucket.

Corcoran continues explaining that the success of the test needs to be defined and any potential roadblocks or considerations should be taken into account. The reporting cadence is also crucial and should be clearly communicated to stakeholders. The stakeholders should be provided with regular reports that include the KPIs, trending data, and historical data.

At the end of the test, a wrap-up report should be provided to the stakeholders that includes the primary goal and whether it was achieved. If not, why not and what were the unexpected results. The report should also include insights, such as which engine outperformed the others, which device type performed better, and which keyword or product theme had better results. In case of a test that did not meet its success goals, the team can evaluate the data and determine how to move forward, such as turning the test into an evergreen campaign or adjusting the KPI reporting to reduce delays. The team should also be provided with information about the ads, verbiage, and landing page being used in the test. The presentation will also touch upon various new ad types, including Performance Max.

Additional testing

Corcoran discusses various other strategies and considerations for ad testing in the digital marketing world. Performance Max, which is a type of ad that can be run across multiple channels like YouTube, display, Gmail, and maps, but raises questions about tracking and cross-channel implications. She discusses Responsive Search Ads (RSA) and the importance of considering company branding and ad copy testing when creating RSA campaigns. Corcoran also touches on landing page testing and emphasizes the importance of making clear and significant changes to landing pages rather than just minor adjustments.

Key takeaways

It is also important to always take into account the performance of other channels. Has a landing page test already been conducted, and does this have any relevance to paid media? While it may be performing well on the web, paid traffic might only require one click to make a purchase. This is especially true for bottom funnel tactics.

In terms of campaign maintenance, it is important to ensure that messaging is aligned and there are opportunities for quarterly expansion. To do this, one should outline their business objectives, funding source, target audience, campaign types, keyword themes, messaging, landing pages, and KPIs. This will help to ensure that the strategy is clear and concise, and will aid in running the campaigns.

It is also important to ensure that all campaigns are consistent and that the same bidding strategies, site links, and other elements are used globally. This can be done by creating a keyword matrix, which outlines the general brand keywords, messaging, landing pages, and KPIs.

In addition, teams should ensure that they are looking at the same data and that the data source is trustworthy. The data should also be reported and optimized correctly, and there should not be any delays between reporting and optimization.

When looking at data, it is important to consider the impact of different markets, product themes, devices, and seasonality. This can be done by looking at sales funnel metrics such as demand generation, conversion, and post-sale, and by examining the impact of data slicing on these metrics.

For example, you can analyze the performance of different product themes year over year to identify growth and decline opportunities. The same can be done for funnel intent, such as conversion, consideration, and awareness, and this information can then be used to optimize and categorize different intentions.

Finally, a high-level view of performance can be created by combining keyword themes, regional themes, and all-up performance into one chart. This can be a useful tool for stakeholders to understand the performance at a high level.
